Rob Picciolo, best known as a Padres and Angels coach but also a Brewers utility infielder in 1982-1983, died of a heart attack yesterday at age 64.

1982 was my first full season following the Brewers, and in my ongoing tradition of caring about underdog guys, he was one of the first players I specifically rooted for.

He won't be the Brewers' best-known #8, but I have fond memories of him.

:(

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

He was pretty much buried on the bench as a Brewer. Of course in those days, they kept 6 or 7 bench guys and the last couple didn't see much action. He's a few months younger than me. Sad news.

Sad. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he is the first player from the '82 team to pass away.

Was just thinking that myself. I believe you’re right. Outside of Harvey Kuenn everyone else is still alive.
