Offseason Prospect Rankings and Media

Offseason prospect ranking season begins early! Just Baseball is first out. Leighton definitely does better work than a Kiley McDaniel at ESPN, for example...

Chourio #3 (behind Holliday and Caminero), Quero #26, Misiorowski #50, Lara #62, Black #64.

Oct 19th podcast discusses the top 10 prospects, including Chourio. He was able to get a look at Chourio in AAA and came away very impressed. Some interesting tidbits:

-Clocked at sub 4 (3.8!) from home to first. Thinks he has the best run tool in the top 100.

          -90th percentile EV of 106.

-30 HR potential, but needs to reduce GB%

          -"Acuna-lite"/"superstar"

Some really interesting comments here, including Adams being a divisive prospect and the Ibarguen discussion.

As someone who watched Adams play quite a bit in 2023, everything he said made sense and is completely understandable.

Where I diverged was his comments on Henderson. Henderson has very clearly put work in on his breaking balls since 2022 and tho he may not throw them a ton the progress is night-and-day. He doesn't just sprinkle in a slider anymore so I didn't quite understand that entire commentary.

Also, Baez had already moved strictly to 3B since the ACL. So their scouting report there was a bit behind (understandably so).

AND, Baseball 'Merica very clearly still sleeping in EBJ. He can very much handle SS duties. Coming off an AFL championship and All-AFL Honors, I'm going to continue to believe if he stays healthy he has a very bright future.

Yeah, I was a little disappointed with his comments on my guys! I like to think all of EBJr., Luke Adams, and Henderson are on the rise. And, I too, thought that Baez was pretty much a 3Bman.

Good stuff, though, and fun to read. I marvel every time I think about the depth of this system, especially after that stellar draft this year.

It sounds like Baez is probably best at 3rd, but I still think he will likely see some time at 2nd or short just because of the likely roster construction at Carolina.

The last we heard, after his promotion to Carolina, is the organization wants to focus his efforts at 3B. He then played every inning at the hot corner for Carolina (if I recall correctly) - cutting deeply into Adams defensive innings there.

Perhaps @ARobsBrewCrew can chime in here to confirm or add body to this recall.

I was just figuring with Bitonti likely there, too, there would be days where both would probably be playing the field. Unless Bitonti gets first base time.

There are other names that will factor in that decision, too, when the time comes.  If I recall correctly, my understanding was that his focus would remain on the left side of the infield going forward.  Of course, the shortstop position was already locked down for the most part by other slightly more polished players, defensively, when he was promoted.  At this point, I believe Baez is the third baseman for the Mudcats.  That is not to say that he won’t continue to get reps elsewhere in 2024 as the organization wants to build his comfort playing at multiple spots as well.  Once again, we are a LONG way out, but Bitonti is not a sure thing to start in Carolina.  Clearly, the organization is not hesitant to challenge young players with an aggressive full-season assignment, but at this point he is penciled in to start the year in the ACL.  That being said, we all know how quickly things can change.

This one is from a dynasty fantasy baseball perspective but good info even if that isn't your thing:

Baseball America statcast farm system rankings— hitting. Underlying metrics via Hawkeye data from the minors:

1. LAD

2. NYY

3. Det.

4. Phil.

5. MKE

“The Brewers are the third youngest organization. When factoring in age, the Brewers jump from 7th to 5th. The Brewers have a combination of young players with advanced plate skills and at least average exit velocity data.”

For those of us that believe this teams farm system has tremendous young talent, namely teenage talent — confirmation of that here I believe thru statcast. This bodes well for future positional waves post-‘2026.
