...but the risk you face is IF Cameron and/or Lopez fail to get a reasonable free agent offer from another ball club and decide to accept the arbitration ruling (which will undoubtedly be much higher than their 2009 salary), then the budget money earmarked for pitching & other players is gone....

They would have to accept or decline early in the FA period. Its not like they can come back and say "I accept now".

 

And if they do accept, you have trading chips. Just because they accept arby, doesn't mean they have to play here...

 

Lopez to me is a no-brainer. Cameron is more iffy.

There would be a half-dozen teams who would love to have Lopez on a 1y deal. Unless he's got lingering injury concerns, he's an easy "yes".

With how the Brewers are clearing out money, I would be shocked if they offered arbitration to Cameron.

 

I'd like him, but unless he already has an contract agreement with another team - I doubt the Brewers will take that risk.
