Rod Barajas to Pittsburgh

The Pirates get Barajas for $4 million and a $3.5 million option in 2013. Seems a bit of an overpay.

1 HR every 19 AB's playing for the Dodgers. That's not a bad threat to have batting down in the order. I can see some value there.

Barajas is a decent player. Power. Average defense. He's slow and doesn't get on base, so he's limited. And at 36, he's getting up there. He's a 1 WAR type guy. In the baseball world, a guy like this gets around $2-2.5 million. Maybe $3 million. Pirates overpaid. Perhaps that's what it took to get him to sign.

This seems like a slight overpay. I'm not sure if anybody else would have offered him more than $2.5-$3 million. He's a decent player, but I wouldn't be too thrilled about this if I were a Pirates fan. At this point, is he their starting catcher?
