RIP Claudell Washington 1954-2020

Posted

Debuted the same year as The Kid, at one year older than Yount. Hit over .300 over a full season as a 20 year old in 1975.

Bounced around a lot and had a solid career but never really fulfilled the early promise of superstardom.

After two nondescript years with the White Sox in the late 70's, would return years later with the Yankees to old Comiskey Park, where some enterprising Sox fans hung the classic banner summarizing his White Sox stint: "Washington Slept Here".

RIP Claudell

If I'm not mistaken the foul ball in Ferris Bueller's Day Off was off the bat of Washington, so in addition to catching a little Claude (Monet) Ferris also caught a little Claudell on his day off.
