Ethan Murray and Blake Burke powered Nashville as four pitchers limited the opposition to a single run. Andrew Fischer hit his 47th homer of 2026, but the Shuckers dropped their contest.

Nashville Scores Three Unanswered Runs in Final Five Frames to Take Series Lead - Ethan Murray and Blake Burke each record a homer in the win

The Sounds went with a bullpen game on Thursday and it worked out swimmingly as the committee of RHPs Carlos Rodriguez, Lyon Richardson, Gerson Garabito and Cameron Wagoner limited Durham to just four hits.

For the 24-year old Rodriguez (3 1/3 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 4 Ks), this was his best game in several months, as he did not allow any hits until his 12th batter, by which point the Sounds led 2-0 thanks to 2B Ethan Murray’s two-run blast:

Richardson (2 2/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks) was even more effective, retiring all eight batters he faced on just 28 pitches (21 strikes), during which time C Ramon Rodriguez doubled home a run and OF Akil Baddoo (2-for-4) doubled and scored on a wild pitch for a 4-1 advantage. 1B Blake Burke (2-for-5) added the game’s final run as he connected on his 33rd homer of 2026.

Sounds’ Extras:

• On the offensive side, eight Sounds reached base via hit (9), walk (2) or hit-by-pitch (1), although the team went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position. OF Tyler Black (2-for-4) joined Burke and Baddoo in the multi-hit game club.
• Rodriguez helped out Garabito (2 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 2 Ks) by throwing out the Bulls’ only attempted basestealer to end the 7th inning. Garabito then helped himself out by getting a strikeout and ground out to strand two baserunners the following inning, while leading 4-1.
• Wagoner (1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 K) touched as high as 97.6 MPH as he navigated the final three outs as the Sounds grabbed a 2-1 series lead.

Friday’s outlook: LHP Tate Kuehner is slated to start, looking to give Nashville a 3-1 advantage in this week’s road series.

Fischer Sets Record for Most Home Runs by Minor Leaguer This Century, Shuckers Fall to Blue Wahoos - Brewers No. 5 prospect moves into 5th place for most home runs in MiLB Modern Era

Quoting from the linked game report: “Andrew Fischer hit his 47th home run of the season between High-A and Double-A, breaking Ryan Howard’s record for the most by a Minor League player this century… The 47 home runs mark the most by a player in the minors since 1982.”

First baseman Fischer (still just 22 years old) remains one of the biggest stories of the 2026 minor league season, reaching base twice in this contest, with no strikeouts (1-for-3, HR, walk, RBI). Unfortunately, the team was out-hit 9-5 and were limited to just two opportunities with runners in scoring position (0-for-2).

Pensacola cashed in on an early opportunity by pushing across two runs on back-to-back two-out hits in the second inning, while the Shuckers were unable to do the same half an inning later, stranding a pair while trailing 2-0.

C Matt Wood did his best to keep the team in the contest, while #9 hitting SS Jheremy Vargas (2-for-3, double) joined Fischer as the only Biloxi batter to reach base twice.

Starting RHP Jaron DeBerry allowed seven hits over 4 2/3 innings (1 BB, 1 HBP, 3 Ks), but four were of the extra base variety (2 HR, 2 doubles) as he conceded five runs. RHP Joshua Quezada (1 1/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 2 Ks) retired 4 of 5 batters faced in his AA debut.

Shuckers’ Extras:

• RHP Garrett Hodges struck out four of nine batters faced, but also conceded two earned runs late.
• OF Josh Adamczewski’s 12-game hitting streak ended with an 0-for-3 evening, though he did reach via hit-by-pitch.

Friday’s outlook: 22-year-old LHP JD Thompson is ready for his sixth AA start of 2026, aiming to lead Biloxi to a series-tying victory. The team must win its final three regular season games to finish with a .500 record, but is still headed to the playoffs next week on the strength of their first half title.
