Inside The Milwaukee Brewers Players Project: The Macaroni Pony, Go-Go Gomez, & Felipe Alou

What is the Players Project? It's a community-driven, wiki-style project that focuses on Brewers players of all stripes. It's open to all Brewer Fanatic users and we've had contributions for current players, past players, and players who never even made the major leagues but played in the Brewers farm system. We saw several more players added to the database, largely due to the awesome input from @Michael Trzinski. Huge round of applause to him for working so diligently on this project!

Bob Coluccio is one of those short-term role players who are easy to forget unless you were there. A fan favorite of the mid-70s Brewers, Coluccio earned the nickname "The Macaroni Pony" from Bob Uecker himself. Take a look at this great write-up from new user @Dave Umhoefer, who joined the site just to create this page for Coluccio!

Carlos Gomez was one of those players you tuned in to watch every night because you had literally no idea what he was going to do next. It could be brilliant, it could be... less than brilliant. But whatever it was, you were going to be entertained. Armed with every tool in the box, Go-Go's blinding speed in center field led to an outstanding player who endeared himself to fans with his over-the-top energy for the game.

Did you know that Felipe Alou, legendary player and manager, played for the Brewers? I didn't. He actually played in Milwaukee twice: he had a nice two-year run for the Braves in the mid-60s and then closed out his career with the Brewers, playing only three games in 1974. This is the beauty of the Players Project; while most of us are familiar with Alou's incredible career, it's easy to forget his brief stop at County Stadium in the twilight of his career.
