Breakdown
The Brewers resumed play after the break with a two-game series in Minnesota. Game one of that series would see a twelve-inning thriller, with the Brewers putting away the Twins 8-4. Game two would see the Brewers' only offensive surge as of late. Eric Hasse would hit two homers, and Jackson Chourio would add a big fly and 3 RBIs in an 8-7 win. Milwaukee would follow up with a series win over Chicago next. It was a series more pitching-oriented than anything, with the Brewers being the teams coming up with the late hits. Milwaukee does not play the Cubs for the rest of the regular season.
It wasn't just sweet victory for the Brewers though. The Marlins came to town and took two games to end the week. Both the pitching and offense struggled, with Freddy Peralta, Jared Koenig, and Elvis Peguero all failing to be effective. Perhaps a little bit of magic from a old friend got the Brewers back on the right track Sunday, as Milwaukee would win the series finale with Ryan Braun in town for his induction into the Walk of Fame.
It's been a interesting stretch of days since the All-Star break. As that week's festivites ended, the teams within the league started to get ready for the trade deadline. Milwaukee swung their first trade of deadline season with the Rockies on Saturday, while other NL Central teams like the Cubs have been active over the weekend as well. And despite the struggles and success of the team on the field, the largest story was Christian Yelich reaggravating his injured back. It's unknown how long, or even if Yelich will be back in the season. Suddenly the Brewers luxury of shopping an extra outfielder might turn into shopping for another one.
Of course, if you're looking for Brewers deadline coverage, there's no better than right here at Brewer Fanatic.
