  1. Unbelievable. It seems that a good portion of this forum thinks this is like their beer league softball team asking them to switch positions. The time and place to do this was Spring Training. Somehow DM and RR had very little foresight on something most casual Brewer fans saw coming. FWIW about 5 years ago before Weeks really hit his prime I advocated he try becoming a utility player ala Mark DeRosa during his time with CHC because he never seemed like he was gonna hit enough to make up for his D. Now that doesn't seem like a bad idea for him going forward.
  2. Went to the T-rats game today and Roache's HR was a BOMB. I'd have to guestimate 450+. Other things I noticed... Max Walla has a slow bat. Considering his milb stats so far it didn't come as a surprise, but I just have to wonder what in the hell the Brewers scouts saw in him. Did make a nice catch in RF though. Lance Roenicke made a couple boneheaded plays. Falling asleep on the bases, missing a catch at the wall in left, think maybe one more but I'm drawing a blank. Roache has a lot of Rickie Weeks in him. Lunges at the ball, so doesn't make consistent, solid contact like he should. But when he squares it up, wow. Covey didn't really stand out to me. Hit 92-93 on the gun a few times, but didn't make me think we missed out on a future mlb player. Arcia=swag. Looked good at short and hit the ball hard a couple times. Looks like a future stud.
  3. That definitely sounds like a plausible conclusion most MLB managers would make. He's a platoon player at this point. It's painfully obvious. At least against lefties his offense will negate his horrible d.
  4. That's a better team than last year for sure. Mayo is slightly better than Monta and Teague is light years better than Jennings. Throw in natural progression from guys like Sanders and Henson, add in a signing like Kirilenko to mentor the Greek/push Delfino to the bench; that team could easily win 45-50. I fully expect the Hawks to match though. 4/32 is a VERY reasonable deal for Teague. The only way this team is lotto bound is if Jennings comes back. That would be an absolute disaster.
  5. LOL. 3 million less than Millsap got. A top 40 player in the league. Unbelievable how awful Hammond is. Absolutely blows my mind.
  6. Yuni staying over Gennett (or anyone for that matter) is a joke. I guess his OB will have to drop to below 200 to make the FO cut him loose. Also, I really liked the idea of Weeks being in a soft platoon, sitting maybe twice a week against guys like Garza, Wainwright, Arroyo etc. It's what got him out of this funk to begin with. So of course they go away with it.
  7. Weeks still has a ton of bat speed. He's slowed down around the bases (you're right JB, he's def overweight), but his hands are still plenty quick. He's had major slumps (which get more prolonged every year) in 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012 and now 2013. And his main problem during every single slump is lunging at the ball. By the time he is about to make contact, he's so off balance there's almost no way he could square up the ball. At some point the Weeks apologists are going to have to look at the facts and see that over his last 1000 PA's he's been a .200 hitter that puts up a lowish 700 ops and plays league worst defense. Even if he rebounds during the summer months and winds up with a respectable ops, his value is completely shot. He's a sunk cost. Time to move on. I hope Melvin/Ash learned their lesson in that you don't wait until a very talented, underperforming player puts up career highs in every category during his age 27 season to extend him. Especially when he had one more year of arb left. Giving Bianchi the keys to see what we have in him is the right play here. Weeks can go down to AAA if he wants to play every day.
  8. Silver lining: roenicke's stubbornness with weeks might cost him his job. I don't care what the hell war says, his risp hitting has cost us at least 3-4 games alone.
  9. Melvin said he didn't get Overbay because they didn't have the DH spot to fall back on once Hart returned. Basically being in the AL guaranteed Overbay an extra 150-200 ab's, so they didn't have a realistic shot of even signing him. Makes sense.
  10. Facing Arroyo tomorrow, a guy who might be his worst matchup in the league. If he's in there Roenicke reaches a Yostian level of stubbornness.
  11. Roenicke is absolutely right to leave Burgos in there. This ballgame is OVAH! /Hawk H. No need to start doing damage for tomorrow's game. I think RR has been overall pretty competent in his handling of the pitching this year.
  12. Gennett might be the only option who would put up the same .280/.280 slash line as Weeks. Altough he'd probably do it with a .260 BA, so the casual fan would be ecstatic. It's getting to the point where anyone will be an upgrade, but I don't think Gennett is ready. The simple solution is for Weeks to suck it up and go down to AAA and get his swing back like he did in 2007. Bianchi and Yuni can split time at 2b while he's down there.
  13. Nice job trying to pull a low, outside pitch there Rick. What a completely useless baseball player. I had a feeling that Burgos wasn't going to fare too well in this park. Need him to suck it up and somehow go 5.
  14. I just looked at his numbers on fangraphs and he is really having an odd season. Like you said, his LD% is actually quite good. His IFFB% rate is way down . He doesn't have any infield hits on the year. Reading all that and I'd say he's been cheated on his singles. You'd think some of the GBs he's hit would have found holes, or he would of beat out a couple dribblers in the IF. Dat K% tho. Tough to overcome if you're not hitting for some serious power.
