  1. Well, I'll take Mark A. any day given the alternatives. We could still be saddled with Selig. Or we could be saddled with Dan Gilbert (is that correct? anyway, the guy who bought the Cavaliers) who seems more meddlesome to me and hasn't exactly made stellar decisions with that team. Besides, I think any new owner who comes in is going to be 'more meddlesome' than owners of the past. They are paying significantly larger sums of money now than even 10 years ago and Steinbrenner, for all people make fun of him, is the model of success over the last 20 years. Mark A. is the guy risking his money and the Brewers are much better off than they were 5 years ago. What's to argue with? Y'know, Vic Feuerherd can say all he wants, but in the end it's Attanasio's team and he can do what he wants with it.
  2. Anyone hear what the rotation will look like now? Is it Bush that's out or McClung? Considering the last few weeks it should be Suppan, but I can't see that happening.
  3. I am loving Jeremy Jeffress since his return. Other than the 2 blips (in 5 games, I know) he's been awesome. Not sure what the league BABIP is, but his is .365 right now. As he regresses to the mean in that category his numbers will just get better. Hopefully he stays clean and starts to move up the organizational ladder.
  4. I had a similar problem with mine at one point, and it was because the hold button on top had inadvertantly been clicked on.
  5. There is actually a lot of statistical evidence that this is smarter than batting him 9th so I don't find it insane at all. You've kind of made my point for me. You can give me evidence to back up that theory, I can say it makes no sense to bat the weakest hitter on the team any more than you have to. The argument about Ned is equally subjective because it's so difficult to quantify a "correct" move, determine how the outcome would have changed and determine what kind of effect there would be on wins and losses.
  6. Reading into Stark's column, I don't think the issue with his weight is only about being fat. Obviously there is some worry that he'll become his dad (who got HUGE late in his career), but also that he could end up with leg/knee problems because of the weight he carries on a smaller frame than Howard.
  7. Just curious, but if Ned is horrible, what was Davey Lopes? Or Royster? Sure, Ned makes decisions that we disagree with, every manager does. Tony LaRussa (who some consider a great manager) often bats his pitcher in the 8th spot. Absolutely insane. But it happens. While I think Ned did not properly manage the bullpen, by the time he figured it out it was probably too late. How many of those huge leads the team blew started with one of the "other" relievers in, with Ned thinking he could rest the finishers (Turnbow, Cordero, Linebrink, etc.). IIRC, it was quite a few of them. At that point, Ned had to go to the finishers. And, often, that didn't help. I think a lot of it was momentum. After a couple of huge leads were blown, everybody seemed to be waiting for it to happen again. It did, and it's often difficult to break out of those ruts for sports teams, as well as individual players.
  8. I can't imagine it would drop to 1 game with an appeal. He could get a game knocked off, but not 2. He'll probably appeal now, then serve it when they will face back-to-back LH starters or something like that. Maybe against Pittsburgh?
  9. Just checked the Padres site and came away with this... Peavy hates the trade, credits Linebrink and Hoffman with a lot of wins. Towers said they got a deal they couldn't refuse. Sounded like the initial offer was Inman and Thatcher, but it didn't get done until Garrison was thrown in. It also seems clear that Towers would not have done this deal without Linebrink being a FA after the season. Maybe I'm crazy, but are Inman, Thatcher, and Garrison really that much more valuable than 2 months of Linebrink and 2 picks in the top 40 next year?
  10. My favorite one, which dates me a lot, is when I ran into Michael Gross and his family (the real one, not the TV one) getting off the tube in London. June of 1985. No one on our trip believed me until we saw him a couple of days later at Westminster Abbey.
  11. Jake who? That would be a mistake if they let Skinner go, and signed this guy... Did you mean for this to be in blue? Other than the color of their skin, I don't see much difference between Skinner and Voskuhl. They are backup centers who will give limited minutes.
  12. Kendall might not be good anymore, but can he really be worse than Koyie Hill? Hill has a sub .500 OPS in 61 ABs this year. This is an upgrade as hard as it is to believe that statement. Maybe an upgrade over Hill, I don't think it's an upgrade over Bowen. Really, Kendall can't hit and can't throw anyone out anymore. They're paying more for less production. An upgrade? I doubt it.
  13. Clearly Ted Hendry felt sympathy towards the Brewers after Sheets went on the DL. Obviously he's trying to level the playing field so the Cubs don't gain an advantage for that. Seriously, how can anyone think this makes the Cubs better? I guess Kendall could come over and really out-hit my expectations and make me look dumb (not too difficult), but I don't see how anyone can think he's any good. He's slugging .286 for cripes sake!
  14. Saw it and really liked it. Much better than the piece of trash that #3 was, IMO. Given that it was probably John McClane's last hurrah, I thought it was a great end to the series.
  15. I watch none of those. I do find "The Closer" to be very entertaining.
