  1. [sarcasm]We were meant to suffer. It's our lot in life.[/sarcasm] I will concede there is a segment of Star Wars fans that only seem to like Empire Strikes Back. Don't let them or the critics cloud your judgement. Audience reviews are holding strong for The Rise of Skywalker on Rotten Tomatoes, currently the same % as The Force Awakens. It's nowhere near as polarizing as The Last Jedi.

  3. Is a daily post limit available? If we aren't going to ban repeat offenders, maybe limit them to a few posts a day to cut down on some of the crap.
  4. Sabathia. It wasn't just an incredible run statistically but also personal sacrifice. He undoubtedly risked injury with the high pitch counts and short rest, but he put his new team ahead of his impending free agency. The Derrek Lee GIDP followed by Rock's "Yes, Yes, Yes" is something I'll never forget.
  5. I thought Solo was good and Rogue One was outstanding. Solo's biggest issue was it's proximity to the Last Jedi dumpster fire. A December release would have netted bigger audiences.
  6. The Last Jedi was a major letdown for me, although slightly better after a second viewing. I understand the desire for something fresh/new, but if you’re going to destroy the continuity of the saga, you’d better tell a damn good story. Rian didn’t. It ultimately ended mostly the way I expected, but the bad greatly outweighed the good. I was happy with the progression of Kylo in the movie… such a great/complex character. The Rey/Luke scenes were mostly entertaining, sans the weird dinosaur milking (I take it back if that was a moof). Snoke also sort of explained how Rey was able to pick things up so quickly with the force balancing itself out (one of my issues with The Force Awakens). There were things that were just so bad, though... The Finn/Rose side plot was the worst. The prequels certainly had their stretches of boredom and annoyance but never in such a lengthy, pointless story. Leia/Mary Poppins, just face palm. What were they thinking? The forced humor. Star Wars has always gotten in some one-liners but a prank call? Come on. It was dumb when Lucas transformed R2 from normal droid to super droid. Why do the same thing with BB-8? The First Order's incompetence. You always got a sense that the empire was mostly capable, but overconfident. These guys just come across as total nincompoops. How the hell did they come to power? Admiral Holdo. Along the lines of the Casino story, too preachy and pointless. Did we ever get an explanation why she couldn’t tell anyone what her plan was? Luke almost killing his nephew in his sleep was completely out of character. If you make the assumption that Snoke played a part in Luke's actions, you've got a dark side user stronger than Sidius on your hands. And to kill him off with such a simple trick? Unreal. Rey and Kylo seeing each other near the end might be a sign that there's more coming from Snoke? Or maybe I'm just scratching for a bit of intrigue from this film. The story Kylo told about Rey's parents contradicts Rey's flashback in The Force Awakens (did they sell her for booze money and stay on Jakku or leave on a ship?). Was Kylo lying? Hopefully it's JJ's decision to make.
  7. This. If you feel like your code needs some explanation, documentation isn't the answer. Clean it up. Along these lines, acronyms and abbreviations in code drive me absolutely crazy. Compare the second it will take to type a few more characters with the time you'll spend explaining your chicken scratch to other developers, and it should be a no-brainer. return bFanFFPst;
  8. I think the original trilogy established that people can use the force without little or no training. Luke had just started training with Obi Wan and he was blocking shots with the blast shield down. Leia could feel that Luke got off the Death Star before it exploded. Also, one of Rey's visions when she touches the light saber appears to be of Kylo and the Knights of Ren killing Luke's students. If that vision was a repressed memory, Rey likely would have had some force training before she was left on Jakku. I had more issue with how Finn was apparently the only Stormtrooper in the galaxy that could shoot straight and how he held his own for a while against Kylo.
  9. This. If this is a "sad franchise" now, what were we in 2002? The way we played during this collapse is how we looked all season back then. There's accepting mediocrity, and there's accepting reality. The Brewers will never be a perennial playoff team. It just can't happen with the market we're in. If frequent playoff/world series appearances is your standard for a franchise, you're never going to be happy as a Brewers fan.
  10. When you're getting rocked, there isn't much difference psychologically between giving up 3 runs and giving up 6 runs. You really think he'd feel that much better about his outing had he been pulled earlier? No reason to use another arm.
  11. The thing that irked me the most about the finale was the kids in the end essentially saying "forget about mom, we know you've always loved Robin." Really? I could maybe understand that if they'd never known their mother, but she would have been a part of their lives for a while.
  12. Being the primary development language for Android and with it's wide use in enterprise applications, I think it'll be relevant for a while.
  13. I can't speak to what's more likely to be used in the Chemistry field, but if you're going for just a high level understanding of programming, I'd recommend starting with Java. C++ has some complexities that Java takes care of for you, and it's easier to find documentation for Java, IMO.
  14. Wet Hot American Summer
  15. If you decide to go the Windows route, I'd also recommend a Samsung. Check out one of the Series 9 ultrabooks. They are a little pricey but are fast, built solid, and light.
