When will the Brewers make their first offseason acquisition?

Ok, technically this happend when they claimed Casey McGehee, but that doesn't really count. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Make your predictions! Will it be a FA signing? A Trade? Dare to predict who will be the first player(s) in the first aquisition?

My predition: FA signing Nov 21st: Trevor Hoffman...

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Hoffman won't sign with anybody until afte the Padres decline Arby in early DEC...I think.

I predict the first trade will be Cameron for Cabrera on Nov. 20th.

I predict first signing is Sheets Dec. 1.

I predict the first "signing" being Sheets accepting arbitration on December 7th. While a deal wont be done at that point, he will be the Brewers property.

You are probably correct. I misread the announcement that the Padres recinded a contract offer as refused arbitration. I was bouncing between late Nov and early Dec to sign Hoffman, but am hoping the Brewers will be a little more agressive. Hopefully signing Hoffman on Dec 8th won't be the first aquisition. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Last year the Brewers made the very first free agent signing once the 15-day window expired after the WS. It was...

Randy Choate.

Nothing special about that. Here's hoping this year's first signing has exponentially more value to the Crew than Randy Choate did.

Personally, I hope it'll be Gabe Kapler re-signing ASAP -- and right after CC signs, wherever he signs. Kapler proved he's a very valuable role player. Wouldn't be the highest impact signing, but it would be an extremely smart one. First non-'08 Brewer to sign on with the '09 Brewers?

I wouldn't complain if it were either Kerry Wood or Trevor Hoffman, however unlikely many may think that seems.

They already acquired someone, Casey McGehee, on waivers from the Cubs.

But right now they are being held hostage by the Sabathia situation. It needs to be resolved quickly so realistic moves can commence.

I hope it's not Wood or Hoffman and not because I don't think they are solid pitchers. We don't need to spend big bucks on a closer. Seth McClung should be our closer.

I say the first signing will be Sheets or Kapler.

I'll go with some top end minor league free agent who gets a 40-man spot, sometime before the end of the month.
Swindle on Nov 25th. Looks like And That was the closest.

Congratulations! You win.... bragging rights to next year. Enjoy your prize. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
