Cubs sign Joey Gathright

[milwaukeesportsfan]

Looks like he'll be a backup in Chicago. Better them than us, I say.

I would've taken a flyer for that contract - 1 year at $800k. It's hard to know exactly which way the Brewers will be going in CF until Cam is either traded or it's decided he's staying.

So Pie released yet?

[Fatter than Joey]

If he is their #5 guy, I'd rather have Gathright than TGJ. Otherwise, pass.

Pie might be toast.

We're doomed.

[Tbadder]

Package deal, Peavy in the fold after Pie is traded along with others--yes, we are doomed.

Was Gathright a top or near top prospect when he was called up? He's incredibly fast, and I remember Peter Gammons being high on him, but he never really hit any groove or anything.
