Another terrible beard. They should add one run to anyone's E.R.A. who has a terrible beard like that.

Agreed, didn't this kind of start with the Johnny Damon era Red Sox? If they did it to mock the Yankees I'm all for it then, but it has run its course.

Those beards look ridiculous. Do you think that one day, when they're older, these guys will look back and see how stupid they looked?

Pinch hi specialist Lyle Overbay is up.

Agreed. I think it took off with Brian Wilson. Sell it and they will come.

It would be one thing if these horrible beards were trimmed and groomed. These guys just look like grizzled mountain men who could pass for homeless if they were wearing a flannel sweatshirt. There's nothing cool about these things.

Brian Wilson is a joke. He eventually just became a sad caricature of himself.

Gomez strikes out. Stop me if you've heard this one before.

Jimmy's not quite there yet. I like some of the things he's doing, but it hasn't quite clicked for him yet. He's close, and I think he's making strides.

A non-Brewers TV analyst said in a game recently that Nelson has been "ok." Thought that was an accurate analysis.

I will say this: we could have a really nice bullpen if we make the playoffs.

I don't think Jimmy was ready to be in the rotation on the big club with only 2 pitches. :ohwell

And they keep on swinging

That slider must be enticing as hell. It drives me crazy to watch one hitter after another swing at pitches outside the strike zone all night long. :tongue

Please don't walk in a run. 5-1 would be a killer.

Here's a combined statement on the quality of the MLB At-Bat app and the ugliness of Davis' baserunning:

The inning ended so abruptly that I turned away before the play, turned back to see the "Commercial Break In Progress" message on the screen, and thought the stream screwed up again.

Is this game not being shown in Wisconsin (I'm watching the SD feed)?

I feel bad for the wives of some of these guys. Those beards are just nasty. And honestly, I don't know how they can play with them. I've never had a beard, but I've had a few days of growth, and I just couldn't sleep. These guys have a damned shrub hanging from their chin, and they're out there sweating.

Darn, Luc just missed it. That would have been big.

Should I feel confident that we'll win the series with Gallardo going tomorrow? Because I don't. Not the way we're whiffing left and right.

This team is so irritating at times

Its maddening. The Cards finally lose a game and we have a chance to put some distance between us and we play like this. :(

We got 10 runs in the first game. Who is pitching for them tomorrow?

The Brewers are under performing. Inconsistant. They should have had a 10 game lead back by the all star break. This team can't win close games due to their approach despit the pitching they are getting. The reason why the Cards can is because they change their approach in close game and choke up on the bat and just go for the single and go the other way, which increases the probability of a baserunner or driving in a run on 2B. You better hope the Cards don't make the playoffs and the cubs and Pirates beat up on them.

Reading all of the Segura posts... Can you imagine the discussion if he was extended last year when there was talk about it. I don't think they ever were close, but there had to be some discussion for it to leak out publicly. How bad would this year look if he had signed an extension.

He's joined the Axford Club of close calls. Unless things turn back around, both will have left some serious change on the table.

On this day in 1987, Paul Molitor went 0-4 in a 1-0 10 inning Brewers win over the Cleveland Indians. That ended Molitor's hitting streak at 39 games. Molitor's streak was the 7th longest in Major League History, and the longest in the American League since 1941 when Joe DiMaggio set the Major League record by hitting in 56 straight games. DiMaggio's streak ended on July 17th. DiMaggio, being interviewed after the game, said that having the streak end cost him $10,000, as the Heinz Corporation would have paid him $10,000 to endorse their Heinz 57 product if he'd hit in 57 straight. The next day, DiMaggio started another streak, hitting in 16 straight games. Incredibly, that meant DiMaggio hit safely in 72 of 73 games.

The only time I can recall a home team being boo'd for hitting a walk off.

Molitor was on deck when the winning run was scored.

Ross was an All-Star for a reason. The Brewers aren't the only team he's been fooling with that slider. He had a 1.10 ERA in July (.500 OPS-A) and a 2.78 ERA in August.

He was a 2nd round draft pick in 2008 out of UC-Berkeley. Only 7.8 K/9 in his minor league career. Don't mock drafting college pitchers - sometimes they turn out to be really good. A's traded him for Andrew Werner and Andy Parrino. Oops.
