taxi squad for road trips what you want five now twelve

while on road trips, the 30-man, 28-man and 26-man brewers rosters may bring along up to three players from their 60-man pool as potential active roster replacements in the event that a player is made inactive to the major league roster--a taxi squad, if you will.

mlb is allowing for this to avoid commercial travel for the reporting player(s) and potential exposure while traveling.

if the club carries three players on road trips, one of those players must be a catcher. that catcher may serve as a bullpen catcher.

these players do not have to have 40-man roster status, but if they are activated, they must be added to the 40-man roster. if the brewers wish to return that player to the taxi squad or alternate summer camp in grand chute, he must either be placed on optional assignment (staying on the 40-man) or clear outright waivers (removed from the 40-man).

keeping in mind that a 40-man roster spot is opened up whenever a player is placed on the special covid-19 injured list or 45-day injured list, or when a player is designated for assignment or placed on release waivers, who do you want on the club's taxi squad for ready activation on road trips?

while active rosters are at 30 players, i want:

jacob nottingham

ronny rodriguez

drew rasmussen (the brewers appear to have an open 40-man spot at the moment)

david stearns says that he expects that the taxi squad will vary from trip to trip. the rationale is that the development of the taxi squad players is stunted while they're away from grand chute. taxi squad players can work out with the club while on the road, and a catcher can serve as a bullpen catcher.

the brewers have five road trips scheduled--one of which is just two games vs. the white sox. the longest road trip lasts 11 days. that's a pretty lengthy stretch of inactivity for a taxi squad player.

taxi squad 1.0: ryon healy spotted. and jacob nottingham is still with the club.

unclear if healy was part of the initial taxi squad or not, or if he was brought on as a substitute for an unidentified third player. it's possible that he's on hand to for getaway day in case brock holt or ryan braun is placed on the injured list.

I don't understand the title of this thread.

I don't think the referenced thread made the WOAH SOLVDD section of the website, but it was a well-panned thread title from about 3-4 years ago.

Yeah, still don't get it. Just looks like really bad grammar to me. (or some kind of whacked out typo)

That's the point - kind of like WOAH SOLVDD, it is somewhat of an inside joke about a poorly typed thread title that showed up on here a few years ago.

it's only a two-game road trip, and it's in chicago . . . will the brewers bring up to five players from the ats as part of taxi squad 2.0? looking at taxi squad 1.0 . . .

--ryon healy is on the active roster

--shelby miller is on the restricted list, having opted out for the season

--jacob nottingham is optional assignment at grand chute and can be permitted to be on the taxi squad

there won't be a taxi squad in chicago.

any spottings of taxi squad players in chicago? i am guessing that they're all still up in grand chute and will travel with the team when they head up here to minneapolis.

i am questioning whether or not the brewers actually had a taxi squad 2.0. i haven't seen any reports of players working out, and now, the road trip is over.

any reports of sightings on taxi squad players yesterday?

i'm beginning to think that david stearns has asked the media to not report on sightings . . . i have no idea why the brewers aren't officially announcing who's on each taxi squad.

knowing is what you want.
