- RHP Jesus Rivero released by Low-A Carolina

21-year old RHP Jesus Rivero was a June 2021 international free agent signing from Venezuela, posting impressive strikeout rates in starting and relief over 4 seasons across DSL, ACL and Low-A ball (12.3 K/9 in 157 career innings). His 2021 (DSL – 2.22 ERA, 1.27 WHIP in 28.1 IP) and 2023 (Low-A/ACL – 3.04 ERA, 1.21 WHIP in 50.1 IP) were quite impressive, though walks and HBPs marred his 2022 and 2024 campaigns. We trust that Jesus is fully recovered from a July 2024 injury, as suggested by his recent Spring Training start on March 29. Good luck to Jesus in his next opportunity.

So far Grant Wolfram is a "phantom Brewer", having not pitched in his one-day Brewers stint. The 6'8" LHP was optioned back to AAA Nashville, presumably to make room for RH reliever Nick Mears return to the active roster, ironically in Colorado.

Tough after seeing the interview from the dugout in which he discussed his family members making their way to Milwaukee for Sunday's game.

Baseball America's Matt Eddy (no subscription needed for his Transactions page) indicates that the Brewers released infielder Casey Martin, although his Biloxi MiLB Player page still shows him as active. Martin was at spring training, but it seems did not make the cut for FY25. The former Phillies 2020 3rd round pick, picked up by the Crew in a minor cash trade last June 14th, struggled to a .485 OPS in 54 games with the Shuckers, leaving his career OPS at just a .574 mark.

On a day with some less-than-ideal news, I’m happy to share something positive. RHP Jaron DeBerry is not injured.  The organization has just taken his ramp up a little bit slower this spring, and he expects to be assigned to either A Carolina or A+ Wisconsin in the near future.

Thank you @ARobsBrewCrew - that is great to hear, as it was worrying he wasn't even assigned.

Hoping he gets a few starts in Carolina, then off to Wisconsin soon.

.... And then later on for his Cy Young seasons in Milwaukee 😉

I presume all of these are procedural announcements - as they were injured and now assigned and designated with 7 day IL so that they can come off when ready, not necessarily that they are only 7 days away from being reinstated off the IL?

I’d be a little concerned (but not like Flashing Red Level 10, as we really don’t know much) about Wichrowski, since Curt Hogg had said something different 6 days ago: “But rest easy, Wichrowski is simply stretching out still at the Brewers’ complex in Phoenix and will join an affiliate when he’s ready and there’s room.”

We’ll have to keep listening and reading for more updates, especially as Russell Smith, Dylan O’Rae and Coleman Crow (Hogg had indicated a similar situation as Wichrowski) still appear to be in roster placement limbo.

Are the Brewers flirting with me?!?

A Goofy Movie Awww GIF

I believe these two transactions would qualify under 'Joseph is Dancing, Pumping Fists, Popping Champagne, and Smoking Cigars' metaphorically. Distinctly two of my guys getting those nods of approval from the org feels like more salve on the wounds of the past month. The roller coaster ride continues.

- RHP Carlos Maurera has been released by the DSL Brewers #2.

Maurera, a free agent signing out of Venezuela after he had just turned 18, had not pitched for the Brewers since his 2023 debut season. He was placed on (what ultimately was the entire DSL season) the 60-Day IL last early June. Flashing legitimate upside and potential in his debut season, pitching 14 2/3 innings with 14 K and 8 free passes and achieving a healthy 3.68 ERA and 1.09 WHIP, Maurera unfortunately never regained the health needed to take the professional mound again as a Brewer. As he heads into the next phase of his young career and life - baseball and otherwise - we wish this young man all the best. May he find success wherever he lands in whatever endeavors he pursues.

BILOXI, MS – The Biloxi Shuckers and Milwaukee Brewers have announced that OF Garrett Spain has been transferred to the Shuckers from Triple-A Nashville. Spain will wear No. 2. The Shuckers' active roster now stands at 28 players.

With Triple-A Nashville, Spain appeared in 11 games and recorded two multi-hit performances. Spain was acquired in the Minor League/Triple-A Phase of the 2024 Rule 5 Draft from the Toronto Blue Jays organization. Spain split time in 2024 between Triple-A Buffalo and Double-A New Hampshire in the Blue Jays organization. Over his five-year professional career, Spain has appeared in 324 games.

- Signed 18-year old RHP Albert Vargas and assigned to DSL-Brewers2
- Signed 20-year old RHP Jesus Molina and assigned to DSL-Brewers2

@ARobsBrewCrew had given us a heads up on the Vargas signing back on February 7: "Not much is known about Vargas except that he works in the low 90’s with his fastball at the moment"

Feel like this must be a precursor to O'Rae getting activated because this puts Biloxi down to 12 position players, 3 of which are catchers with Torres not playing a single inning so far this year.
