Brewers vs Pirates Doubleheader, 7/11/26: Game 1 (Sproat vs Ashcraft, 11:05am) | Game 2 (Drohan vs Chandler, 3:05pm)

That was an ugly & painful loss. I’d rather lose 10-0 than lose in this fashion. As I’ve typed MANY times in these IGTs, Murphy’s in-game decision making is his one fatal flaw. I love everything else about him, but he consistently makes poor choices with his favorite players. Today, it cost us a win.

Murphy pinch hits for our best hitters because he can.

He must think that is what has to be done, so he does it.

He is so hard to figure out.

Just stupid stuff.

This game is good example of the Murphy feel for the game thing. He just seems to lack that something in game decisions. He's not good enough imo. I know it's an opinion but I stand by it.

Except that we have the second best record in all of baseball.

I respect that he wins, but I doubt I will ever like Murphy.

I mean there is a perfectly reasonable argument that the Brewers are one of the best run “systems” in baseball, Pat Murphy happens to be the man running the current system, and if it were Rickie Weeks running it next year instead they would still win 95 games.

The long road trip might finally be taking its toll. That game was horrible on several levels, but especially the pitching.

...and the managerial decision making.

Terrible loss and Pittsburgh will go into game 2 with the all the juice while the Brewers will go into game 2 with a Yelich lead-off three pitch strike out.

I appreciate the effort from the "captain" conceding the final out of the game instead of trying to get in a run down

I agree.  The Brewers have a great system.  I think we win in spite of Murphy though, not because of him.

we got better when we dumped Chet, and we’ll get even better when we dump the pancake

Not because Murphy is a wizard in the dugout. In the clubhouse maybe but that's just me.

If our manager wasn't an absolute idiot with his in game decisions, we could easily have the BEST record in baseball.

Why settle for second best?

It's interesting that when things go to cripes people put so much blame on the manager and not the players who are supposed to do their jobs. Also, it's the easiest thing to do because the person doing the criticizing is always (often self-righteously) right after the fact.

That is not because Murphy is a good in-game decision maker. I hate for anyone to make that argument. Yes, the Brewers have a fantastic record … that does not mean that the two-time MOY handles the bullpen well or that he is good with pinch-hitting late in games. I credit our pitching staff & coaches for our exceptional record - not Murphy.

I have no issue with the Vaughn decision. He is a right handed platoon bat who is on this roster for the strength of his ability to hit left handed pitching, That is the exact spot you want him for and he did not get it done.

I definitely do take issue with other things such as Yelich continuing to lead off every day.

Just wait, he’ll use his grandkids as a shield again to avoid taking any accountability after the game

Those are his kids, not his grandkids.

Once those bases got loaded you had to pull Ashby there.    At that point your are hoping and praying for a win instead of actually making a move that gives you a way better chance of winning.

that just sucked.    I don’t know if Ashby has earned any right to get out of anything.   He’s crap awhile now.

Pittsburgh has a better team these days at the plate & on the mound. But I can see why they don't have the look of a contender quite yet. The error in the 9th could've been a killer, and the throw home for the final out.........holy cow, what a dumb decision with Vaughn running. But it worked. Maybe a different outcome if we don't giftwrap them 2 in the first inning.

I saw nothing from Ashby today that suggests he's wearing down. First pitch ambush for a base hit to the right side, the hit that loaded the bases wasn't hit particularly hard. Then after the K he falls behind Valdez 3-1 which is asking for trouble, but he's done that at times this year even when rested. Velo looked fine.

It's too bad they couldn't have closed it out for Yoho. He really seems to be locking in.

It was kind of funny watching Mlodzinski. What appeared to be a couple of very disinterested innings from him, then all of a sudden he gave a damn in the 8th once he smelled a W.
