Brewers Minor League Link Report (4/8): Second Verse, Same As The First

Transactions: 

• Milwaukee Brewers traded RF Steward Berroa to Philadelphia Phillies for cash.
• LF Jacob Hurtubise assigned to Nashville Sounds from Biloxi Shuckers.

The Sounds ran into a buzzsaw in the form of 20-year-old electric Braves’ prospect Didier Fuentes in second game of their series with Gwinnett on Wednesday night. Fuentes (#97 overall on MLB Pipeline) cruised through six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and four walks while striking out eight Sounds.

Luke Adams accounted for the only two hits for the Sounds on the night. The rest of the Sounds’ prospect-laden lineup have continued to struggle mightily to open the season. Jett Wiliams, Cooper Pratt, Jeferson Quero, and Brock Wilken were a combined 0 for 14 with two walks. Through 10 games, only Quero (.578) is sporting an OPS over .450. Greg Jones has now reached base in all nine games in which he has appeared with another hit-by-pitch. Jones added his fifth steal of the season and is now second on the team to Luis Lara with an .871 OPS.

The Sounds’ pitching staff fared a little better on the mound.  Garrett Stallings started and went four scoreless, with just one hit, two walks, and four strikeouts. The game turned in the bottom of the fifth, after Stallings gave way to Easton McGee. After a caught stealing, McGee had two out with nobody on before the flood gates opened. McGee walked a pair, gave up three hits, and five batters later it was 4-0 Stripers. McGee was lifted from the game and Joe Corbett struck out former Brewer Ben Gamel to retire the side. Big lefty Brian Fitzpatrick closed the game out with two innings and just one unearned run allowed on a Wilken throwing error in the bottom of the eighth. Fitzpatrick has yet to allow an earned run in five innings this season.

Shuckers Tie Double-A Record in 6-3 Win over Blue Wahoos

The Shuckers improved to 3-2 on the season with a convincing 6-3 victory over Pensacola on Wednesday night. The Shuckers jumped on the Wahoos in the first when top prospect Jesus Made reached on an error, stole second, and scored on Blake Burke’s first non-home run hit of the season, courtesy of Biloxi’s X account:

Righthander Manuel Rodriguez would make that run hold up until the top of the fourth when he allowed a solo home run, the only blemish in his Keesler Field debut. The 20-year-old Rodriguez, who pitched to a 3.00 ERA across 90 IP at A/AA last season, finished the night with five strikeouts in 5.2 IP.  

The Shuckers would quickly respond in the bottom half of the fourth and break the game open with a lot of loud contact. (Or did it just seem that way because I always hear the contact before I see the contact on the Shuckers’ broadcast? I digress.)

March trade acquisition Damon Keith continued his torrid start with a 114 MPH exit velocity blast off the centerfield wall to ignite the rally. That registered as the Shuckers hardest hit ball on the season and was made more impressive when you consider the Shuckers’ broadcast mentioned that a Shucker has not hit a homer to straightaway centerfield in Biloxi since Jackson Chourio in 2023.

Third baseman Mike Boeve followed Keith with an RBI single before catcher Matthew Wood drove a two-run homer to right to make it 4-1 Shuckers:

The Shuckers capped the scoring with RBI singles from Dasan Brown and Jesus Made in the inning to take a 6-1 lead which they would not relinquish.

Wisconsin Gets a Late Start in Win at Quad Cities

The Timber Rattlers ran their win streak to three consecutive games with another exciting victory on Wednesday night. The game was scoreless through five innings, due in part due to Jason Woodward’s triumphant return from his second Tommy John surgery. Woodard, a 2023 fourth-round pick, threw 2.2 scoreless innings in his first appearance since August 2024.

The game broke for the Rattlers in the bottom of the sixth.  After RBI singles from Luis Pena and Marco Dinges opened the scoring, Josh Adamczewski followed with a three-run blast, courtesy of Wisconsin’s X account:

One inning later, third baseman Andrew Fischer launched a grand slam to make it 9-0 Wisconsin:

Travis Smith earned the win as the bulk man on the mound for the Rattlers, pitching five innings with one run, on four hits, one walk, and four strikeouts.

2025 sixth-round pick Josiah Ragsdale had an up-and-down night, with four steals despite zero hits and two poor fielding errors. Fischer also had an error in the seventh, following his grand slam, on a poor throw that he was a bit too lackadaisical on. Just goes to show these guys aren’t without their development areas, but it’s still a really exciting time to be watching this Brewers’ system.

Late Push Sends Salem Past Wilson

The Wilson Warbirds set the tone early in the second inning when Jadyn Fielder ripped an RBI single to right, followed by Yannic Walther’s run‑scoring knock to give the Warbirds a 2–0 lead.

After Salem tied the game in the third, Wilson answered right back in the fourth. Fielder was hit by a pitch, stole second, and scored on Juan Ortuno’s sharp two‑out single to put Wilson back on top, 3–2. 

Unfortunately, Salem responded in the bottom of the inning to tie the game again and would then rally for runs in the sixth and eighth innings to seal the victory.

Tyler Renz started for Wilson and went 3IP 1H 2R 1ER 2BB 4K in his first start of the season.
