Brewers Minor League Link Report (6/14): Mitchell and Perkins Begin Rehabs in the AZ Desert

Not official yet, but:

Crow is a near lock to be added to the 40-man roster in October, otherwise he qualifies for minor league free agency at that time.

Adams Ties Franchise Record in Shuckers Doubleheader Split Against Lookouts - Adams ties Tyler Black, reaches base in 35th consecutive game, Murray records three-hit game

Will 21-year-old (just turned 21 in April) Luke Adams and his .924 OPS be higher than his current 20th spot on BrewerFanatic's Top Prospect Ranking next time around? Voting is open so influence the vote as you wish.

Adams singled and was hit by pitch for the 19th time in 2025 in the opener, and then walked three times in the nightcap. lifting his OBP to .435, by far 1st in the Southern League and 2nd in all of AA to Cardinals' infield prospect and 2024 7th overall draft pick JJ Wetherholt at .437. Wetherholt plays in the much more offense-conducive Texas League.

Adams' .924 OPS tops the Southern League as well, with teammate Brock Wilken not far behind at .914. No other Southern League batter is within .100 points of OPS from Adams. Wilken walked and drove in a run in the opener and doubled twice in Game Two.

Manager Joe Ayrault utilized his bench to maximize days of rest - the five players to start both games were Adams, Wilken, Cooper Pratt, Luis Lara, and Zavier Warren. We'll see if any of those core five stalwarts are rested on Sunday.

Pratt reached base five times on the night - remember, each game went only seven innings. While Lara only singled once, he was contributing in his usual manner:

Coleman Crow tossed six innings of two run ball (one walk, six K's) as the 24-year-old is about to get the first taste of AAA in his career. 

Alexander Cornielle's outing was much more uneven than that of his fellow righty Crow.

Loons Stop Rattlers with Seventeen Strikeouts - Wisconsin officially eliminated from playoff contention for the first half

For LHP Sam Garcia (8th round, 2024, Oklahoma State), the second start in a Timber Rattler uniform did not go as well as the first. It required 88 pitches to navigate four innings. The Great Lakes "X" feed provides four highlights with Garcia on the mound - you'll see three breaking pitches and one fastball from Garcia, but you'll also view tentative/awkward play from left fielder Tayden Hall in two instances. Hall has only eight career starts in left, this was the third of 2025, and it showed Saturday night. Ironically, Hall yanked his first home run of the season in the 2nd inning, but that high did not carry over into the field.

It was 9-1 Loons when Eduardo Garcia put together yet another power swing, but it's still worth a look:

With 17 K's of Rattler batters, one would figure there'd be a golden sombrero in the building. Actually, there were two. We'll let you peek at the box score as we try to accentuate positive vibes here when possible.

Now would be a good time to learn about the origins of the "golden sombrero" term (Wikipedia tells us), though it seems to me that a paper sombrero would be more appropriate than the big value of a golden version:

It would appear that Marco Dinges' exit after six innings was due to the lopsided score.

Juan Baez grounded out softly to the 3rd baseman for the 2nd out in the top of the 3rd and was ejected when he disputed the call (he was safe, by the way). The Great Lakes broadcast team gave us good looks not only on the play but the discussion afterwards. Baez kept things relatively cool, but apparently the toss came when he made reference that this was the 2nd mistake by the umpire. Subscribers can watch it here at the 01:53:00 hour/minute mark. This was MiLB's "Free Game of the Day", but it's likely not free at the link. You can try, however.

Lynchburg Rallies Past Mudcats

Never take for granted what we get video-wise from all four full-season affiliates, and then the BrewersPD "X" feed on top of that. I say that because the Lynchburg Hillcats X feed has been idle for over a year now. Not ideal for Guardians fans.

Despite the loss, we'll post one of the highlights the Mudcats culled from this road game:

The 19-year-old switch-hitting Di Turi is one interesting cat (pun intended). He's slugging .457 in 57 Mudcats games in 2025 after slugging (non-slugging?) .233 in 66 games last summer post-promotion from Maryvale. He's striking out in a reasonable 23.4% of his plate appearances given the power jump and is walking at a 13.3% rate. He's not a basestealer (3-for-7 in attempts this season), but it appears he's comfortable at each of the infield spots west of first base (third base on Saturday). He also doubled earlier in the game and is a fun development story thus far, though let's not forget Di Turi was a $1.3 million bonus baby in 2023.

Just a few names for you to ponder as you watch Luis Pena beat out an infield single that he probably had no right to. 

Outside of the June 7th game we had hoped would be a breakout, the Braylon Payne (0-for-4, two K's on Saturday) game log screen is not pretty as of late, while the splits for May / June emphasize that.

RHP Chandler Welch worked through five innings nicely, but the bottom of the 6th did not go well from any standpoint.

Garrett Mitchell started in center field and played defense through five innings. He struck out twice, looking to lead off the game and then swinging in the 3rd. He was pinch hit for by Jadyn Fielder in the 6th (Fielder fanned in both his at-bats on the day - give the leadoff spot a paper sombrero!).

Blake Perkins started in right field and remained on defense through four frames. The switch-hitter also had two trips to the plate - groundout to short in the 1st and again in the 4th, each time against a different southpaw Giants hurler.

A-Crew pitching was brilliant through eight innings in this road contest. 18-year-old Venezuelan LHP Enderson Mercado tossed five scoreless, while fellow 18-year-old Mexico native RHP Carlos Carra faced one over the minimum (HBP) in his three innings. Review the game log to see how a very sloppy 9th inning led to a walkoff loss. Sigh...

Promising 18-year-old LH OF bat Handelfry Encarnacion last played on June 5th.

Actually, there are three elements of note:

17-year-old Venezuelan RHP Luis Velasquez' 2nd professional outing (and start) was quite nice, one run in five innings. 

18-year-old OF Carlos Done already has three assists in his first eight games, two outs at third base from left field on this night.

And whoa, 19-year-old 2nd year pro Justin Lugo made his position player debut, batting 3rd (2-for-4 including a double), and he was behind the plate for the entire game! Lugo had already made five relief appearances since the opening of the DSL season, including the day prior on Friday. He has a 5.40 ERA in 14 games on the mound (two starts, 20 innings total) between 2024-25. Will we find out this was all an MiLB computer error? We'll see...

Neither team scored in the 1st, 2nd or 9th innings of this game. Otherwise, yeah, it was pretty wild.

On the mound, six G-Crew pitchers saw action and two were the primary victims, 2nd-year RHP Wandy Cabrera and rookie RHP Albert Vargas in his 2nd pro outing.

Congratulations to 2nd-year player Jonathan Rangel (played first base here but has an interesting defensive history) on his first pro home run. The LH-swinging Rangel has seven base hits in his first seven games of 2025, and six have gone for extra bases. He's walked five times (six K's) and sports a .900 SLG and 1.362 OPS, that'll play!

17-year-old bonus baby Kenny Fenelon continues to fill the box score in all kinds of ways - single, walk, RBI, HBP, SB, outfield assist, and three K's.

I'd love to break down this game further, but as you've just read, I've already invested much of my Father's Day morning into seven games here (thank you, Mother Nature on the AAA level!). Have at it at the box score further.
