Brewers Minor League Link Report (8/6): Crow and Antunez Lead Affiliates to Two Thursday Wins

Coleman Crow tossed six scoreless innings in Nashville’s victory. Brailyn Antunez’s late homer broke the deadlock in Wilson’s win. Braylon Owens’ terrific start went for naught for Biloxi and Wisconsin also fell.

While starting RHP Coleman Crow (6 IP, 0 R, 5 H, 2 BB, 5 Ks) turned in a fourth consecutive solid start, his teammates eventually figured out how to push runs across against Redbirds’ switch-pitcher (and former Brewers’ 2022 draft pick – unsigned) Jurrangelo Cijntje.

The bottom of the 4th inning and top of the 5th were critical, as Crow escaped despite allowing three singles, assisted by C Darrien Miller throwing out an attempted basestealer. Switching to offense, C Jeferson Quero then singled to trigger a run of four consecutive Sounds’ reaching base, highlighted by OF Jacob Hurtubise’s RBI walk and SS Freddy Zamora’s sacrifice fly.

Nashville faced a tense bottom of the 6th inning, as a two-out stolen base, error and walk put runners on the corners, but Crow was up to the challenge.

Sounds’ Extras:

• Kudos to RHP Gerson Garabito (2 IP, 0 R, 3 Ks) for delivering two scoreless innings of relief, retiring six of seven batters faced. LHP Drew Rom (1 IP, 1 R, 0 Ks) earned the save despite allowing one run across.
• The teams combined to go 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position, with 2B Eric Brown Jr. (1-for-2, 2 walks, SB) being the only successful player in that regard.
• Nashville was victorious despite being out-hit 7-5, producing no extra-base hits and having the game’s only error.

Friday’s outlook: RHP Brett Wichrowski is scheduled to start for Nashville, who can even this week’s road series with a victory.

The game log will tell you that Biloxi had this road game won, as LHP Sam Garcia induced a ground ball with two outs in the bottom of the 9th inning which could have finished off the Clingstones, but an error on 3B Andrew Fischer put runners on the corners. A five-pitch walk then loaded the bases before the first pitch, walk-off two-run single sent the Shuckers to defeat.

Perhaps buoyed by OF Damon Keith’s return to action (first game since May 23) or OF Josh Adamczewski’s first pitch solo home run to commence the contest, RHP Braylon Owens (6 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 7 Ks) turned in his best AA start, only hurt by a two-out RBI double in the 5th inning.

Keith’s one-out single in the 6th inning came just in front of C Matt Wood’s RBI double to re-take the lead 2-1, which was nearly enough for Biloxi’s staff to close it out. Wood went 1-for-3 with a walk and this RBI.

Shuckers’ Extras:

• Biloxi out-hit Columbus 7-4 but went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position, leaving eight men on base. This includes failed conversions with (at least) two-on, one-out in each of the 5th, 6th, 7th and 9th innings.
• Credit to RHP Garrett Hodges (2 IP, 0 R, 1 K) for tossing two scoreless innings of relief in his fourth AA outing.
• Batting 9th, 2B Jheremy Vargas (1-for-2, 2 walks) reached base three times, while OF Mark Coley II (2-for-4, SB) led the offense with two hits.

Friday’s outlook: RHP Manuel Rodriguez gets the call to lead Biloxi, who look to tie up this week’s road series at two games apiece.

In his second career High-A start, RHP Jacob Morrison (5 IP, 5 R, 7 H, 2 BB, 2 Ks) reached peaks in terms of innings (5) and pitches (78), so that’s an encouraging sign of positive health and continued development, even if he allowed at least one run in four of his five innings.

Five of Wisconsin’s eight walks were drawn in the 5th inning, but that patience only produced one run due to a pick-off and the team’s struggles with runners in scoring position on this night (1-for-8 with 10 left on base, matching their AA counterparts).

• The Timber Rattlers had the lead runner aboard in each of the 6th and 7th innings, then put runners on the corners with two outs while trailing 5-3 in the top of the 8th inning, but none of them scored.
• Each of 3B Eric Bitonti (1-for-4, walk, RBI) and C Yannic Walther (0-for-2, 2 walks) reached base twice and DH Luis Pena (0-for-4) stole two bases, but the team struck out 15 times (including seven Ks for two Wisconsin batters who came in red-hot).

Wilson and Hill City fought to a 4-4 draw through three frames, then both teams stranded a pair of baserunners in the 4th inning before LHP Andrew Healy (5 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 5 Ks) came in to win the bullpen battle from there.

Every Wilson batter recorded at least one hit in their victory, but none was bigger than OF Brailyn Antunez’s 1-out solo homer on the first pitch he saw in the 7th inning, with DH Rylan Mills following suit a few pitches later:

Two-out hits by 2B Filippo Di Turi and 1B Frederi Montero (2-for-4, walk, RBI), a wild pitch and a throwing error helped tack on two insurance runs in support of Healy.

Warbirds’ Extras:

• Antunez’s 2-for-5 evening with a homer, double and two RBIs extended the 18-year old’s hitting streak to nine games and on-base streak to 29 games.
• Starting LHP Enderson Mercado (4 IP, 4 R, 4 H, 2 BB, 4 Ks) bounced back from a rough 3rd inning (single, walk, three-run homer) to retire the next five batters he faced.
• C Kevin Garcia (1-for-1, 3 walks) reached base four times and 3B Juan Ortuno (1-for-4, walk) had two runs batted in.

Battling to remain in playoff contention, the Blue Men staged a remarkable comeback from a 14-1 deficit to claw within a run in each of the 7th and 9th innings but fall just short on the road. 14 hits, 9 walks and 1 HBP weren’t quite enough to make up for the 11 hits, 8 walks and 4 hit-by-pitches allowed by Blue pitchers, as the team fell to 25-21.

OF Frandy Lafond (3-for-4, double, walk, SB), 1B Angel Gonzalez (2-for-4, 2 walks, 2 RBIs) and SS Diego Frontado (1-for-3, 3 walks, RBI, SB) each reached base four times, while 3B Leanders Matos (3-for-6, double, 2 RBIs) contributed another three hits.

Thirteen Blue batters came to the plate in their nine-run seventh inning outburst to narrow the score to 14-13, highlighted by Matos’ two-run double. 2B Christian Montilla went 2-for-6 but unfortunately made the final out of the 7th and 9th innings, the latter after the team pushed across two runs with two outs.

After issuing a run-scoring walk to the first batter he faced, 19-year-old RHP Lukas Gonzalez’ relief effort (2 2/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 3 Ks; 1.71 ERA) was excellent, while RHPs Steven Duran (2 IP, 9 R, 3 Ks), Justin Lugo (1/3 IP, 5 R, 1 K) and Wilmer Duarte (3 IP, 2 R (1 ER), 1 K) all struggled. The teams combined on seven errors, a passed ball, nine wild pitches and two balks in the crazy contest.

The Golden Men retained their 1 1/2 game division lead by grabbing a 4-1 advantage by the second inning, navigating several frames while leading 4-3, then tacking on five runs over the final three innings.

19-year-old RHP Paul Hoff (6 IP, 3 R (2 ER), 5 H, 3 BB, 5 Ks) improved to 6-0 by buckling down after Tampa had cut the lead to 4-3 in the 3rd inning, while OF Angeni Fernandez (2-for-4, walk, 4 RBIs, SB) drove in four runs to lead the offense.

Leadoff batting 3B Ricki Moneys (2-for-4, walk, RBI, 2 SBs) also reached base three times and 1B Jefer Lista (2-for-4, HR, RBI) smacked a solo homer, as the Gold squad improved to 27-18. Lista’s homer made it a 5-3 game in the bottom of the 6th inning after a few quiet frames.

Kudos to RHP Jose Arias (1 IP, 0 R, 1 K) and RHP Wandy Cabrera (2 IP, 1 R, 4 Ks) for closing out the victory, with Cabrera earning his 5th save of 2026.
