Brewers Minor League Link Report (9/6): Three Victories, but Dinges is Dinged and Ebel Exits

Three wins on Saturday, we have MLB rehab updates, and unfortunately a couple of early exits by prominent prospects. Let's break it all down!

    Transactions:

    • RHP Grant Anderson assigned to Nashville for MLB rehab
    • LHP Nate Peterson transferred to Nashville from Biloxi.
    • OF Jimmy Herron back to the Nashville Development List as the 29th man.

Congratulations to Peterson, the Crew's 8th round pick in 2022 out of Illinois-Chicago, who has been utilized as a swingman in each of his three pro seasons thus far.

Final: Nashville 7, Norfolk (Orioles) 6

Cameron Homers, Provides Three RBIs in Sounds Win - Stallings Spins Second Straight Quality Start in Winning Effort

As the linked game summary details, Daz Cameron's AAA season has been tremendous, .594 SLG in 56 games. The Sounds posted video of Saturday's home run here. Cameron's MiLB Player Page reminds us of his career differential as a minor leaguer vs. his various MLB stints. Yet, he's one of 55 players to don a Brewers uniform thus far in 2025, so he'll be among those fitted with a championship ring (no such thing as a jinx, folks).

Brandon Lockridge is a very classy name, very Hollywood-ish. Even better? Cameron Lockridge, seen in the first two spots in the Nashville lineup. (Yes, you can tell Link Report season is winding down...)

RH reliever Will Childers turns 25 in November, and the Brewers still have four additional years of team control. Picked up the save here and should be a staple of big-league camp invitations with a potential future as an optionable bullpen arm within the next few years with Milwaukee.

Biloxi was outhit 12-6 so this wasn't an offensive breakout. The Shuckers were given four free passes, two of which were plunkings of Darrien Miller (hello, fellow human magnet Luke Adams). Through six seasons, the 24-year-old Miller carries a .372 OBP despite a .218 career batting average. Miller should find interest on the minor league free agent market this fall as a youthful LH bat who has made strides defensively behind the plate in recent seasons, though not yet a standout in that regard. Whether an MLB appearance eludes players with that profile or not, the MiLB landscape will pretty much guarantee employment to those of that ilk.

Although starting RHP KC Hunt only walked one (seven K's), he needed 89 pitches to navigate 4.1 innings. RH reliever Abdiel Mendoza has been super solid since the calendar flipped to June, and he stranded two runners for Hunt in this one.

Marlins' first base prospect Dub Gleed has picked up internet recognition steam in recent days due to his unique moniker but let it be known his actual first name is William, so there's that. To be honest, you could pair any first name with "Gleed", and you'd still have a cool full name.

Rodriguez Strikes Out Eight in Wisconsin Win at South Bend

We have officially reached the portion of our report where the word "penultimate" makes its appearance, with both the T-Rat and Mudcat season finales set for Sunday. And what's this, a 3rd straight win within this report? Nice...

Not so nice? This nugget from the linked report above:

Dinges was sidelined from June 30th to August 8th (see below) with a similar injury, hopefully last night's is less severe and he'll be able to fully participate in upcoming fall instructionals and such, although a potential Arizona Fall League stint may have to be ruled out (not that we're aware it was imminent).

    Ho-hum:

A couple of other clips at the team's 'X' feed, including the elusive-as-of-late Luis Pena base knock, one of two for him in the game.

Thank you, Manuel Rodriguez, for being you. Just 20 years old as of a month ago, the native of Mexico was effective as nearly always (meaning outside of his uncharacteristic first two outings in August). This is the second consecutive season he'll finish with a WHIP under 1.00, coming off his 2024 campaign with Carolina.

    Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes
Final: Fredericksburg (Nationals) 5, Carolina 0
    Box Score and Game Log

    Mudcats Shutout at Fredericksburg

With no momentum generated after Friday's walkoff playoff elimination loss, Carolina could muster only four base hits, with the lone XBH a Braylon Payne double (as in, maybe Payne should have been in the lineup Friday).

18-year-old RHP Tyler Renz deserved better (still find it incredible every time I type "18-year-old" for any player in full season ball), as Renz allowed only one hit - a two-run home run - in 4.2 innings. Another run was charged to Renz when it crossed the plate after his departure.

2025 Supplemental first round pick Brady Ebel, the designated hitter for this contest, was hit by a pitch in the 6th. He did remain in the game and ran the bases for himself; however, he was pinch-hit for in the 8th.

Being the dedicated veteran ("old") Link Reporter that I am, I did tune in to the game video archive (MiLB TV subscribers can go to the 02:26:40 hour/minute mark here). It was an awkward situation. Ebel, a LH bat, was drilled on the back of his left elbow, which would be his deeper elbow in the batter's box. The initial view was pretty scary. After being visited by team Athletic Trainer Lauren Gottschall, Ebel, as noted, seemingly shook off what the Fredericksburg announcers surmised may have been one especially painful funny bone situation. Hopefully that's the extent of things, as we may not learn more for quite some time unless Ebel shockingly sees action Sunday.

We'll get to see standout but on opposite ends of the age scale pitchers Tanner Gillis (25) and Melvin Hernandez (19) in the respective Wisconsin and Carolina finales Sunday. Nashville plays a matinee while Biloxi and starter Tyson Hardin get underway at 5:00 CT if you need an early evening baseball fix and a break from the NFL Red Zone (football, what's that?). Enjoy your day, everyone!
