This Week In The Brewers Players Project: Rob Deer, The Sundown Kid, & Cecil Cooper

The Milwaukee Brewers Players Project continues to grow, as we're now over 50 players in the database; let's look at some of the newest additions.

What is the Players Project? It's a community-driven, wiki-style project that focuses on Brewers players of all stripes. It's open to all Brewer Fanatic users and we've had contributions for current players, past players, and players who never even made the major leagues but played in the Brewers farm system. Create your favorite player today!

We saw several more players added to the database, largely due to the awesome input from @Michael Trzinski. Huge round of applause to him for kick-starting this project!

First up this week is our favorite Three True Outcome hitter from the '80s: Rob Deer.

Deer was one of my personal favorites from the mid- to late-1980s, which is when I became aware of baseball. While I didn't really appreciate that plate discipline, those dingers sure were cool. Take a minute to throwback to the time of Aquanet and hair metal bands and read up on Mr Deer.

Next up is one of the most fascinating reads you'll find about a baseball player. It begins with promise and spirals from there on out, ending the worst possible way.

Dan Thomas (aka. The Sundown Kid) grew up a religious fanatic and struggled with almost every aspect of his professional and personal life. His story ends in tragedy, one you've probably never read before.

To finish on a higher note, Cecil Cooper often doesn't get the credit he deserves.

One of the best Brewers hitters in franchise history, Cooper is often overlooked behind the deadly duo of Paul Molitor and Robin Yount. But without his 142 OPS+, 121 RBI performance in 1982, Milwaukee probably doesn't make its first (and unfortunately only) World Series appearance.
