  1. A lot of people are going to pat Doug Melvin and Mark Attanasio on the back for making this deal happen. The real hero, though, is probably Bernie Madoff.
  2. Even more impressive, 20 penalty minutes in seven games. That's a decent rate.
  3. And with that, Kari Lehtonen just became my favorite hockey player of all time (picture 19/61).Jason LaBarbera's mask also holds special place in my hart (46/61).
  4. not sure if this has already been passed around the internet, but a "walking dead" fan was so excited for the show's debut that he created a version of the opening credits. here's the link: http://vimeo.com/15266890. phrases like "fan-made opening credits" usually indicate a fine blend of excessive free time, obsession, and full-blown nerdiness, but those credits were way too awesome to criticize. the actual opening credits were well done (seen here), but i have to give the edge to the fan.
  5. more likely to be with the cubs organization next season: milton bradley or jim hendry?
  6. he really should have stretched before throwing those egg cartons and plastic bottles into the appropriate recycling bins. the way this season is headed, i would very surprised if this wasn't the brewers' last PSA-related injury this year.
  7. the guys staying in the cardboard shanty have to be regretting their decision not to invest in an extra tarp or two right about now. mother nature - 1, cardboard shanty - 0. more rain and gusty winds predicted tonight, turning into snow by morning.
  8. while the original band was together, the members of joy division agreed that the band name would change if any of its members left the band for any reason. after lead singer ian curtis committed suicide, joy division's remaining members became new order. this change, however, is much easier to do when the original band had little commercial success, like joy division. putting "led zeppelin" or "guns 'n roses" on the cover of an album is going to almost guarantee a million records sold.
  9. i could copy and paste it if it's OK (since those aren't "free" words) -- i don't want to ruffle any feathers. the gist is that attanasio may be crazy enough to try to outbid the yankees, and buster feels that could be a mistake. buster also hypothesizes that cc is a physical freak like david wells and can handle the workload he's been given throughout his career. edit: another interesting link from that blog was this article from the la times about the medical procedure that is allowing takashi saito to pitch again this year and may help him avoid surgery.
  10. i got it for 360. i don't know why, but it seems like all the players' pictures were taken from mugshots in this year's game. and a lot of them didn't even play for the bengals. i did a fantasy draft, and i was just astounded by how scary-/ugly-looking most of the players are. they were a lot better off in the days before high-def. but as far as the actual game goes, it's definitely the best madden edition thus far. others have their novelty value because of quirks in the game (the ability to dive into players after the play and injure them, tapping the spin move over and over to become an untackleable tornado, qb sweeps with michael vick, etc.), but this is the most realistic version yet. also, the addition of IQ to this year's game is awesome. it adjusts the game's difficulty based on your skill level. pretty impressive.
  11. marisa miller, first. kate beckinsale, second. ryan braun did receive consideration and probably would be in the top five.
  12. The most surprising part of that clip is the end where it shows that the movie was rated PG. There was an awful lot of shark-on-human violence in "Jaws."
  13. in related news, people of the planet Earth are reportedly breathing more oxygen than any other gas. not to be too much of a smarty-pants, but oxygen is really the "hot dog" of atmospheric composition. we breathe in much more nitrogen than oxygen. according to the always reliable wikipedia: The air we inhale is roughly 78% by volume nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 0.96% argon and 0.04% carbon dioxide, helium, water, and other gases.
  14. I came to a realization a little while ago, and I'm not sure how to feel about it. I have reached a point in my fan career in which I actually enjoy watching the Cubs lose more than I enjoy seeing the Brewers win. Now don't get me wrong, I love seeing the Brewers win. But after watching George Sherrill strike out the last three Cubs with the bases loaded and hearing Wrigley's drunkest fall deathly silent, I had a smile on my face that couldn't have been removed with a jackhammer. But when the Brewers win, my feeling is more of contentment than of schoolgirl-level giddiness. I was just wondering if any other people suffer from this same condition.
  15. wow, this thread really got ugly. this would be akin to my dad finding out that john wayne shaved his legs. branyan's original nickname was "russell the hustle," but then he realized that there was no need to rush after hitting home runs, walking to first, or heading back toward the dugout.
  16. With the Rockies' mathematical elimination from the playoffs due sometime in the coming days, do you guys think that they would be willing to part with someone like Aaron Cook? To me, he's on his way to becoming a Chris Carpenter/Aaron Harang-type -- someone who figured out how to pitch a little later in their careers. Plus, a lot of teams become obsessed with strikeout pitchers, and he definitely is not that. His single-season career high for K's is 92. Therefore, his asking price would probably be lower. What would it take to pry a sinkerballer -- and the most consistent of Colorado's pitchers -- from the frost-brewed lining of Coors Field? The fact that he looks like Seth McClung might be enough to scare some people away from him, but I'd still like to see him in a Brewers uni. Unrelated note: I was looking at the Brewers' roster, and I saw that Corey Hart's full name is Jon Corey Hart, meaning that he actively chose to be forever linked to the other Corey Hart.
  17. i root against the cubs in 99.9% of situations. this situation is not yet dire enough to be included in the 0.1%. i'm hoping for a cards sweep. since i'm from kenosha, i have to deal with more cubs fans than the average brewer fan.
  18. Iron Chef Ohka is my hero. I hope the Brewers keep him for the rest of his career.
  19. Remember a week ago when people were discussing how Carlos Lee came into camp like 3 ounces overweight or 15 milligrams or 12 ions or something like that? This is so much better. This year will be the first opening day I've attended in my 21 years. I hope Spring Training continues like this and gives us fans some hope to compete at the start of the season instead of the anticipation of watching a train wreck.
  20. bjamesw22 is absolutely right. I had no intentions of smoking at 4:20 today, but now that I see how rebellious and cool it is, I have no option but to smoke. I'm not legally an adult yet, so my intellectual ability is still limited to mimicry of what I see and hear adults doing. Way to practice good parenting/role modelling, guys. Why don't you just go ahead and show me how to rip a bong? Kids aren't as dumb as you think. I have a funny feeling bjamesw22 is a code name for John Ashcroft. There is a narc amongst us.
  21. Well, I think it's pretty obvious now. Brady Clark is on steroids.
