  1. Just wanted to check with you, uwis, but the times I've been to Time Warner Field, the velocity display board is missing some bulbs on the right-hand digit. Are you sure he was getting clocked at 99, and it wasn't just the defective light board? He was nowhere near the upper 90s when I saw him pitch earlier this season. I wouldn't question your firsthand reporting (thanks, btw) if not for the defective light board. The velocity display board isn't missing any bulbs, it's just that the upper left portion of the second digit is permanently lit up. As a result, all pitches that are 93 mph kind of look like 99 (even though the two nines are different, with the second one looking more like a lower case g). So actually Odorizzi was throwing mostly 93 with a few 94s while I was watching. If a pitch is actually thrown 99 (as a few Jeffress pitches were iirc) the two nines would look identical.
  2. Prince can get a deal like Howard's and still be young enough to sign another. Makes it more likely to get it done around this price. Maybe American League time for Prince 5 years out.
  3. Not a candidate on Valentine's staff. Hambone and Valentine couldn't stand each other with the Mets and Hamilton claimed to have put a hex on Valentine and the Mets when he was let go.
  4. Anybody remember who Sveum collided with to break his leg back way back when?
  5. Braun could be a once in a generation guy, better than Yount or Molitor. Would be like trading a young Hank Aaron. Ask the Cubs how that Lou Brock trade worked out.
  6. Corey does have excellent athleticism but is not a good right fielder. Many times he gets near balls but doesn't catch them. His arm is well below average for a right fielder and his set-up/anticipation for throws is poor to accentuate the arm deficiency. 1st base would be an excellent option. His physical ability and wing span would be an enormous upgrade for the Brewers at this position. Jettison Prince to the American League asap for a decent pitcher or prospects.
  7. Rumors around Appleton are that, as soon as next year, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers will cut ties with Seattle and become the new Brewers low A affiliate. Any information about that circulating? Appleton has an excellent facility and the Timber Rattlers draw very well in spite of very, very poor teams the past few years.
  8. I'm pretty sure I've seen him in the dugout a few times during broadcasts within the last couple weeks. Not sure whether just in Milwaukee or on the road. From personal experience I would say a September return is certainly not inconceivable assuming no complications and given that he is a very young and fit. Healthy knees are critical to pitching success but it's not like he's a cornerback, wide receiver or tailback. More like a QB with a very good line.
  9. Any chance that Gallardo would be able to pitch in late Sept. or October? Edit: Please use descriptive thread titles, not just a player's last name. - Toby
  10. Navarro is the well-fed pitching coach of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in Appleton.
  11. As good a guy as he is, he needs to move on and so do the Brewers. DFA or trade him for anything and use his spot on the 40 man to bring up Branyan for a versatile guy with a left handed power stroke off the bench. Not being able to trust Turnbow we've been operating with a 24 man roster anyway. It will cost the Brewers money but as it is it costs money, games and morale. Team and fans.
  12. In the context of Bush's year long pattern, Yost's decision was idiotic. He was lucky to get out of the 6th. Leading off the 7th, it was the perfect time to try to get more runs and allow Bush to leave with a good taste by pinch hitting. Plenty of guys on the bench. Instead, with 2 outs and bases empty he pinch hits for Gross, arguably the Brewers best player for the past week and who had already made a tremendous catch earlier. Later, Estrada doesn't pinch hit for Miller against the right hander and, of course, Mench doesn't pinch hit for Jenkins against the lefty. Bush gets lit, Hart's injury gets exposed, game over. Ned has to go.
