  1. Yea, dream is about all I can do about the CC situation. Wait, that came out wrong. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Anyway...I'm convinced more and more that the Brewers will make a legit push to keep CC. However, "legit" can be defined differently by different people. I think Mark and Doug are smart enough to realize that we can't kill the future of this franchise by paying CC 20-30% of our total salary number. They can get creative though and like Braun said: offer less years or load the contract in a way that it doesn't sink us if we sign him and he gets hurt. Can you imagine a rotation of CC, Gallardo, Parra, Bush and McClung/Suppan? Pretty solid, I say. It'd be even better if we went after a mid-level guy to shore up the #4 or #5 spot in the rotation and to add insurance against Gallardo and Parra not being able to go 200+ innings next year.

  4. If I'm the owner, Yost wouldn't be on the flight back from Philly tonight. And I'd rent a bus to pick up the players - give them the chance to think about things as they cross Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.
  5. You have to believe that with this collapse Yost is gone, unless by some miracle we still make the playoffs this year. If that happens, he's back...prepare yourself.
  6. Who would have thought that 15 days ago we were one of the hottest teams in the majors...now look. YUCK. I'm not even sure what to feel right now. Anger? Frustration? Empathy for the players? Happy because the Packers are playing well?
  7. My only thoughts: - Switch up Braun/Fielder - Bench Weeks and/or Hall (preferably both)...we can't have Weeks, Hall and Cameron in the lineup on the same day - too many strikeouts. - Start Rivera for a game (not sure what exactly this is going to accomplish except mixing things up a bit) - Put Hart in the leadoff spot Not sure any of these (or combo of these) would help, but I think SOMETHING needs to be done. This is getting ridiculous...
  8. I think we have to at least split this series - both in terms of the playoff race, and from a mental standpoint going into the Cubs series. We've lost the first game - with, by far, the best pitching matchup we're going to have all series long. So...armchair managers - what do you do to light a fire under these guys?
  9. I'd go after a C.C. Sabathia-type front line starter and try to lock up Sheets before the season ends. That way, at the end of the season (regardless of what happens), we can try to re-sign the Sabathia-type player and have Sheets coming back next year. Imagine: Sheeter, Sabathia, Gallardo, Suppan, Parra. Wow. I'd also like to see the Crew make a run at a middle reliever (as I think ours are going to run out of gas again this year) and a middle infielder if Weeks and/or Hardy don't improve. If they make a move, I want it to be something that they can carry into next year. The Linebrink "rent-a-player" move last year didn't really sit well with me. One other thing - we are LOADED in the minors and just overstocked the kitchen with the latest draft. If I'm Melvin, I'm not afraid to give up something to get something (LaPorta, Gamel, etc) - as long as we get someone with years left on their contract that can help us beyond 2008.

  12. Did I miss the press conference where MLB announced that run differential (not wins/losses) would determine the standings in 2008?
  13. 16-12 and the Cubs go 13-14. The Scrubbies are on the road a lot and have to play the dreaded west coast swing at San Diego and LA. They also have to play the Blue Jays (as do we), the Rays (leading the AL East), the White Sox (leading the AL Central) and against Atlanta (albeit at Wrigley). I think the Scrubs come back to Earth a little bit in June. Feasting on the bottom feeders of the league (Nationals, Rockies, Pirates, etc) has been easy pickings in April in May. Especially since they played 99% of their games at home....ok, maybe that was a stretch, but didn't it SEEM like 99%? Think about this: the Cubs have 8 losses at home this year - we're responsible for half of those losses. Yowza. GO CREW.
  14. Gotta be pretty happy at 11-6 with only 6 home games so far. Cardinals are 12-6 but have played 11 of 18 at home...Chubs are 11-6, but have played 11 of 17 at home. We've only played 6 at home plus we've gone on the road to Chicago, New York, St. Louis and Cincy. Yikes. Those aren't easy places to play. I think once the Chubs and Cardinals get on the road, their "real" identities will finally be known...
  15. First, if your board name is referring to the Badgers - I love it. Awesome. I'm a HUGE Davidson fan this week. Second, I also have Dish Network, but live in Waukesha. I get the FSN broadcasts, but they show up usually in the higher channels (I start at 460 and surf around from there). It might be on the FSN North channel one night, but be on a different channel the next night. Also, if you have the HD package, and the game is broadcast in high-def, there will be two channels - one in HD, the other in SD. I also get Cox Sports Chicago for some reason - so I get to watch most of the Chokers and White Sox games. Last year, I was able to get most of the Brewers games at Wrigley in high-def by watching that feed. Turn down the sound, throw Uke on the radio and you're all set. Again, that's in Waukesha, but I would have to believe that you would get Brewers games if you live in Madison... Edit: I meant to also add that I have the Sports Package ($5/month?), but you don't need that to get your local teams...
  16. "Anyone else worried about relying on all of this youth in the rotation for a possible playoff run? I am a bit worried, but I do agree this is the best 5 starters we have, bar none." VERY worried. Not that Vargas was the answer, but I likened it to a security blanket for our young gun starters. If we get in trouble with Yo, Villa and Manny, we're in DEEP trouble. Who do we put in the rotation if one of these guys goes into a Cappy-like funk this year? Maybe my gloom and doom is because I'm a "glass half empty" kind of guy, but I'm not as confident in this rotation as I was yesterday...
  17. You make a big assumption saying that Bush goes to the bullpen when Yo returns...It wouldn't surprise me to see Manny get sent to the pen when Yo gets back. Not saying I agree with it - but I wouldn't be shocked if it happened.
