  1. I agree, he should earn his spot but looking at what he has done over the last year I don't think he has been good enough to stay in the rotation. If Yost isn't judging Cappy on his 6 ER in 2 IP today, than what is he basing it on? His 5.10 ERA and 1.49 WHIP from last year? Yost can't ignore the bad innings this spring and look at only good ones from Cappy when he has the majority of last season to see how bad Cappy is. If Yost is going to give it to the person who earns the spot, he should, but he has to base it off of something other than some streaks where Cappy was actually decent within the last few years.
  2. I'm hoping you're saying it is apples to oranges because Turnbow did a decent job at a reliever and Cappy was mostly awful after the first month of last year. How bad does Cappy have to get before people will say he shouldn't be starting anymore? He had a good month last year, a good first half of 2006 before a below average second half, and an average first half to 2005. Cappy had his shot, and it's someone else's turn until he can prove he deserves to be in the rotation. Turnbow was a much bigger asset to this team than Cappy was last year. If you replace Cappy with CV, I'm sure CV would have outperformed Cappy. You replace Turnbow with Wise, it's not pretty. Cappy should be getting so much more heat than what he is, Turnbow has actually done something since last May.
  3. That's amazing, especially since Braun doesn't have a huge salary (390K) compared to the players making millions a year. I don't think its a bad idea releasing the news, besides giving attention to Habitat for Humanity but it gives attention to the true good guys in sports. I don't think that stuff is given as much attention as it should, especially when all we hear about is the Clemens ordeal and Pacman Jones getting in trouble at another strip club.
  4. I think they should hang on to him until the trading deadline and see what they can get for him. I'm guessing Parra will be starting the year at AAA and get brought up later. That leaves 2 of Bush/Cappy/Vargas in the pen and the other one in the rotation. If one of the starters goes down early, then there will still be enough depth to cover for the starter and keep a long reliever. I don't think Doug would get a lot in return for Vargas, his record is completely inflated because of nearly 6 runs of support per game. If Capuano would have had that type of support, he would have had a lot more wins.
  5. Other than 2005 when Roberts got some MVP votes, he has had only one other season with an OPS above .800. His career BA/SLG/OBP are pretty similar to DeRosa, so it really isn't much of an upgrade at all. Last year was actually an above average season for Roberts, so I wouldn't expect it again this year.
  6. Here is my favorite quote "One of these years, Bush will figure out how to avoid untimely home runs, improve at pitching from the stretch or whatever his problem has been. Could be 2008." What a general statement that includes only about 75% of the pitchers in baseball. Yes, if Bush figures out that problem of his, and if he does it in 2008, the Brewers could be good. National baseball writers always have the funniest things to say about the Brewers.
  7. I never understand the point of a one year extension for a coach, Yost knows hes on the on hot seat and theres no guarantee he's managing next year regardless.
