  1. He was always ranting and raving..."my kid throws 98 mph...he should be in the big leagues, etc" like that sould be the sole reason to put someone in the big leagues. Lots of guys can throw hard but it you can't locate the ball it doesn't matter. I haven't seen a post from him this season though. He should be happy that his son was in this organization, and was given several shots to make it. As I'm sure he will soon learn, other orgs aren't so patient!
  2. Meaning, he was kept on the 40 man while others were traded away, outrighted, etc for proving more in less time. Short of a spring training spot next year, they gave him as much time as they could. Like I said before, he shouldn't have been in the position he was b/c he should have not been added to the 40 man for another year. I hope he puts it together at some point, he just hasn't done so.
  3. I think it is a number of things with Sarfate. He should not have been added to the 40 man when he was. He was added after Beloit, which was unneccessary. If I remember correctly, that was the year Melvin and Co added a bunch of guys out of Beloit. Let's be honest here, he was not going to get rule 5ed out of low A. Personally, I think he was given MORE than enough time to prove himself, and he failed to do so. It is not enough to throw hard, and it seems that is what he relied on. His off speed stuff is mediocre at best. With Dennis, it may be his learning aptitude. Regardless, he was given much more time then most would have. It proves that with Melvin and Ash, if you are a hard worker, they will give you every chance to succeed. As far as the father factor goes, that may not be as far off as some may think. That no doubt takes a toll on a guy. I remember talking about Prince's situation with a few fans down in Huntsville in '04, and some of them that got to know the guys pretty well said that was more prevalent then we may think. Not to make assumptions about Mr. Sarfate in particular, but if what we see on a message board is a bit much, who knows what is going on at home. From what I took away from my visit in Huntsville, was that some of these guys have parents that have their hands in the pot thinking their kid is a meal ticket, while others drill into the kids head that they could never do anything other then play ball. That no doubt takes its toll on a guy. This was much the case with several prospects that year which have yet to get their careers back on track. Add in parents coming on a message board for all to see and discuss and it does nothing to help the guys.
  4. Glad to see someone here finally call a spade a spade. Sarfate is terrible as is Hendrickson. Sarfate has a fantastic arm, no one is denying that, but that does not mean he can PITCH. He is all over the place all the time. I wonder had his father not been a poster on here if the board as a whole would have been harder on him. Hendrickson has been much more impressive than Sarfate in the minors but cant get it together at the major league level. Time and time again he has proved he can't do it. Both have taken up valuable roster spots for entirely too long The Brewers have outrighted guys with much more talent, ability, etc in the past for proving much more then either of these guys have. I'm the first to say that alot of rust must come off in the spring, but I don't think that is the issue with these two. Bring on Villanueva!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. First, what on earth was Don Money thinking when he called Zumwalt in to BUNT when he had others sitting on the bench. These are AA ball players...if they can be counted on to lay down a bunt that says alot. I originally thought Zumwalt had reached his turn in the order, but after reading the log, he was the pinch hitter. Very unfortunate... he was really doing well in his recent appearances, and it didn't have to happen. I was shocked to see that Ford had been released. Nichols' comment that he wasn't progressing really didn't make sense... he had a 2 something ERA the week before, had gotten the walks down, etc. Yes, he got shelled in his two recent outings, but look at the rest of the pen. It was probably more of a financial move then anything... they were probably paying him the most on that team and didn't want to pay that much for a guy in AA. Maybe there were other outside factors related...who knows. Regardless, it seemed that the writing was on the wall with the organization and him (moving him to the pen in favor of Ballouli, etc.). It is probably in his best interest to start over and not have the whole Rule V pressure (or stigma). Best to luck to him wherever he goes... I doubt this is the last we've seen of him. I still don't get what the Brewers see in Costello. He had one good HALF of a season ever. And I can't get how anyone would be impressed at how he did in BC... I would imagine that most 26 year olds that have pitched in AA could get A ball hitters out. He's probably more of a roster filler then anything... he got shelled in the AFL as well as spring training. I would much rather have seen Habel or Taubbenheim get the promotion
  6. Don't worry, I don't even think he'll make another appearance before going back to Huntsville. I was just saying that I was extremely impressed by his performance. I thought he was going to get lit up
  7. WOW! WOW! WOW! Saenz was amazing!!! I am still in awe! Maybe next year we can get rid of Kinney and the other mediocre pitchers and have a real pitching staff. And to think, Saenz is not even as highly regarded of a prospect as Jones, Hendrickson, Ford, DLR and Sarfate. Can't wait to see what this talented group of pitchers produces in the next few years. Add in Fielder and Weeks...
