I don't see a reason to make any trades at this point. I'm not saying we should not shop players (Cameron, Hoffman, etc.), but I seriously doubt the return would really be worth the PR trouble. I've been a life long Brewers fan and I was there for the 90's. It sucked. This is a new era for the Brewers though and I want to see them win now after so many years of mediocrity. But at the same time, I'm no idiot and I know that we don't have a chance this year. We have some of the right pieces to be a contender next year and the year after. So, why not just stand pat and see how things fall this year and make some moves in the offseason? We can explore options in upgrading our pitching. Or take a chance on a guy coming off injury with some upside such as Duchscherer or Myers. I might be wrong, but I do believe that we have some room for salary freeing up after this season. So maybe (a big maybe) we can go out and try to sign a guy like Lackey, Harden, or Randy Wolf. I don't think anyone can really be mad with staying as is this year, unless a no-brainer trade offer is made to us at the deadline and we decline. In response to the question, I don't think we can get anything for Looper at this point. Our best bet is to upgrade our starting pitching and move him to the bullpen next year(does he have an option for next season?). If anything were to go down w/ Cameron, it would involve the Yankees. Cameron could hit 12-15 Homers in that new stadium. The Yankees system is full of young pitching pitching with high ceilings, but no true studs as of right now. I think the Brewers could definitely swipe a guy like Wilkins De La Rosa or Christian Garcia from the Yanks for Cameron. Hoffman is interesting. He is somewhat more marketable than Sherill because the Brewers would not ask for the moon and the man has some playoff experience that could really help a legitimate contender. I don't think we could get any top 5 prospects, but definitely a combination of prospects anywhere from 6-20.

That sucks, I think the Brewers should definitely stand pat at this point. Cardinals lineup just got much better, Cubs are starting to find their stroke. I honestly don't see us really having a chance against the Cardinals or Cubs in this division. Not to mention the surging Astros. Even with a Halladay/Lee I just don't see it this year.

Orlando Cabrera OAKBobby Crosby OAK Adam Everett DET Alex Gonzalez * CIN Khalil Greene STL John McDonald TOR Marco Scutaro TOR Miguel Tejada HOU Jack Wilson * PIT * - player whose current contract includes 2010 option This crop definitely does not look too promising, but if it comes down to it, I would not be horribly upset with either Everett or Scutaro.

Why do people rip the player for the GM's mistake of overpaying. I mean, if your mediocre at your job and someone comes in and offers to overpay you......... I'm guessing you'll accept. But when you accept a ridiculous amount of money, you must also realize that you are in the limelight and are expected to perform. Yeah, it was management's fault for overpaying in the first place, but it's Soup who's out there throwing the ball, not the GM. Thus, Soup will be the one to face more scrutiny. Maybe I'm childish, I don't know, but I do know that he is paid a lot of money and what is there to show for it? But then again, I'm getting paid to a job right now and I'm not. I'm posting in this forum, so I really have no room to talk

I wonder why no team has made a move for him...those AAA numbers are ridiculous and he is in his prime. Barring his situation, he is definitely a risk, but the return could supersede that risk by light years.

Wouldn't Another Solid Reliever Be Splendid?
lloydbraun replied to JonnyLungs's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I wouldn't mind grabbing another reliever, but there are a lot of people who surf these forums that would disagree and say that our bullpen is fine as is. I think it totally makes sense to grab another reliever (if possible) because the market is ridiculous for starting pitching. Brad Penny is one of the top deadline starters, REALLY? Our current starting rotation has trouble making it to 5 innings. Ok, why don't we accept that, not gamel with our future, and get more capable arms to spread out the load in our bullpen? I agree that an upgrade in our rotation would be ideal, but it does not look like that is going to happen. -
JJ Hardy trade proposal for 3 players
lloydbraun replied to rousieboy's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Why would Atlanta want to make a trade like that? Yunel is having a career year and costs less than 500k. Atlanta refused to include Yunel in a deal that would have brought Khalil Greene and Jake Peavy to Atlanta this past off season. Besides, I'd rather have Yunel in my lineup right now, than Hardy if I were the Braves. However, I like the thought process behind a trade like this because this is the type of value I can see the Brewers getting for Hardy (MLB ready young pitching talent, roatation upgrade, and just a player the brewers like in general), but I think a trade like this would really only happen in the offseason. -
Well Davies as optioned to the minors about 2 weeks ago, so I couldn't imagine the Royals wanting a whole lot for him. Bannister baffles me. His stuff is not really all that great, but he gets guys out, especially in the day time. Pavano is a joke. We already have a Suppan and Looper, so why add another aging mediocre starter?

Hardy is a good player, but how much value would he have seeing that they already have Stephen Drew? The D-Backs have had their fair share of outfield woes this year. I definitely think Hart would be involved in a deal over Hardy, if a deal were ever to transpire.

Top Notch Starters at Deadline
lloydbraun replied to Hate those Rodents's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
What about Wandy Rodriguez? He is in a one year contract (I think for 2.6 mil) and he is pitching pretty fantastic this year. I wouldn't think he would be a part of that group of seemingly untouchable players on the Astros being that it is a contract year and he is breaking out. What do you think the Astros would want for him? I think the Brewers would have a legitimate chance of resigning him too. -
Top Notch Starters at Deadline
lloydbraun replied to Hate those Rodents's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I was not trying to say that he would come in and play like his former self, I simply did not (and still do not) understand the hatred for Francouer, especially if he was a throw in with decent pitching. Like I said before, I'd much much much much rather have Hart (who might be heating up!). All I was trying to say is that you can't just count the guy out because of 1 1/2 bad years. And I whole-heartedly disagree with the Bill Hall comparison. -
I just looked at the brewers relief pitchers innings pitched and its not too bad right now, but the real question is, can they keep this up? I mean look at the bullpen and tell me how many guys are having career years. I just don't see it staying this good all year when they are pitching 3 innings every game. Like I said before, a starter would be nice ideally, but that's starting to look like its either going to be a rip-off or nothing at all. So why not add some depth in the bullpen? Especially if you can get it for cheap. I would not mind seeing McClung take the mound every 5th day.
