  1. For the week ending July 18th, Brendon Murphy of the Carolina Mudcats has been named the Low-A East Pitcher of the Week.
  2. Tonight's season opener between the Carolina Mudcats and Frederick Keys has been postponed due to inclement weather at Nymeo Field in Frederick, MD. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader in Frederick on Saturday, April 29 at 1:00 p.m.
  3. Yep, very nice facility. Not a bad road trip at all. Can't wait to get the season in gear.
  4. I don't know what the hold up is with the Houston affiliate identifying a location for 2017. This is the reason more than half the teams haven't yet posted a schedule. It is Thanksgiving and the Houston affiliate has still not announced. I have called the Carolina League office several times over the past couple of weeks and get nothing but a recording about leaving a message.
  5. Sent you a PM.
  6. For those so inclined, a really nice article on how the Mudcat logo came to be and how the team ended up in NC... http://news.sportslogos.net/2015/02/07/the-story-behind-the-carolina-mudcats-its-the-fish-stupid/
  7. The Carolina League, in conjunction with the Texas Rangers, announced the name of their new team located in Kinston, NC this coming season. The team will be the 'Down East Wood Ducks.' The other team moving to NC is still searching for a temporary park to play in for two years before their Fayetteville, NC park will be completed for the 2019 season. Houston wants to be as close to Fayetteville as possible during the two years prior to moving into permanent digs but I have heard nothing definitive.
  8. There are 11 former Carolina Mudcat players participating in this years Fall Classic. This includes Aroldis Chapman, Andrew Miller, and Francisco Lindor.
  9. Agree totally. I am not a fan of the park personally. First, netting is between the seats and the field park wide except for the outfield seats down the two lines, right and left. There are only four rows that are field level seating. All other seats do not have protection from the elements. The netting is a distraction only four rows back at field level, too close. I mostly look forward to visiting GrInger Stadium in Kinston.
  10. Glad to see another local guy on the board. Maybe we'll cross paths this coming summer. Curious, what gives you the impression the park is small? It has the largest seating capacity in the Carolina League (6500). It was an AA park prior to A ball for years. Frederick-5400 Lynchburg-4281 Myrtle Beach-4800 fixed/6599 SRO Winston-Salem-5500 Potomac-6000 Carolina-6500 Wilmington-6404 Kinston-4100 Salem-6300 The Fayetteville team's park is unknown to me at this point so I have no idea about capacity. Their new park is beyond next year as far as occupancy goes.
  11. Great pic! If any of you guys ever get to Zebulon, there is a restaurant that sits along the right field line that overlooks the field. The restaurant is called Cattails. This is very likely where this photo was taken. The radio guy, Greg Young, is a nice guy. Good piece.
  12. Keep in mind that the CL is expanding from eight to 10 teams this year. My guess is that the five teams in the Carolinas will be the South division and the five teams north of NC will make up the North division. Tune In Radio carries most all games on line and I think you can get most of the league teams through through TI. Of course, I prefer the Mudcat broadcast.
  13. The Carolina Mudcats came to NC from Georgia in 1991. They were the AA affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Through Pittsburgh, Colorado, Miami, and Cincy, they remained in the AA Southern League until 2011. I hated when the franchise dropped to High A but have learned to live with it. We have been High A for five years.
  14. Hello everyone. New to the board. First, excited to find what looks like a great board for discussing minor league ball. As someone that has attended many Mudcat games over the years and is also local to the Mudcats park, I say welcome to the Carolina League! When the announcement was made today I will be totally honest, I was shocked. I was betting the owner, Steve Bryant, would opt for the Rockies. The Low A affiliate for the Rockies is located here in North Carolina (Asheville) and I thought it would be advantageous for Colorado to align with Carolina. Some of you guys may recall that when the Carolina Mudcats were in the AA Southern League back in the late '90's, they were an affiliate of the Rockies. So the Rockies already had a history with Carolina. The Mudcats owner opted out of that affiliation after the agreement ended as he was convinced there was not enough talent in the pipeline to go another round. Anyway, the reason that Bryant chose the Brewers over the Rockies this time was that he was convinced when the Brewers GM was here that the organization would provide a lot of talent through here. After my initial surprise, I am starting to warm to the idea. Personally, I am glad to see Atlanta go, not a fan. Have a lot to learn about the Brewers organization but look forward to it. I'm getting long late in the night so I'll quit here for now. Looking forward to picking back up on being a part of the board. Again, welcome to the league and chatting here.
