Regardless of the reasoning, it's something that never would have happened under the previous regime. Good stuff, and a nice victory today.

Man, people sure were ready to bury Macha earlier. Going so far as to say that there was no difference between he and Yost. Well I think we can all say that there's no way Yost manages that game the same way Macha just did. That's doesn't guarantee Yost's way wouldn't have worked just the same, but I think we saw enough from him to have our doubts.

 

That being said, the overwhelming majority of credit needs to go to Todd Coffey.

Thanks to you Ennder as well. If my math is correct, the Mets were about 9.4% more likely to score in those situations than the Crew. That could be worth a game or two over the course of the season don't ya think?

 

The Mets just had a better offense overall, so we would expect them to. I was just arguing that even "good teams" fail all the time in run scoring opportunities. The Brewers failing in one of those situations doesn't tell us if they are good or bad. Nothing more.

I think Macha sent a message to the pen that there aren't too many secure spots so you better step up. Also I think he was saying that he doesn't care what your title is (setup man, closer, etc) because if you aren't pitching well you aren't getting the ball. I also agree that Yost would never have done this and sometimes showed way too much faith in his guys even if they were in a slump. Once Hoffman gets back that should solidify things but right now it's up for grabs.
