Lets go Narvdog. Get win number 10! It sounds as though Narvdog may start having a shorter leash as the Brewers are monitoring his innings, so it'd be nice to see him go out and do well in his next few starts if they do decide to lighten his load in September.

At least he didn't move Cain to RF and put Dickerson in CF again.

Pads announcers spent it seemed like half the pregame talking about how wily scrappy vet David Eckstein will give their young team valuable needed experience for the playoffs. Sweet.

Wow, talk about a quick hook. Might as well use McClendon for a few innings if you're thinking about adding Gomez to the roster soon.

Lets go McNewGuy (as he was called in the chat a few nights ago). ... or not. Oof.

Quick baseball rule question:

Are all of these fielder's choices at home wiping out potential Narvy ER's and putting runners on that are considered McClendons? How does that ruling work?

Posted
The runners are still Narveson's. On a fielder's choice the responsibility stays with the base if an out is made.

Okay, thanks for the answer - that's sort of what I assumed.

Giving up a hit to the pitcher, not so good. Getting the next three guys in order, very nice.

I decided to look up the rule, sauveb is right:

Rule 10.16(g) Comment: It is the intent of Rule 10.16(g) to charge each pitcher with the number of runners he put on base, rather than with the individual runners. When a pitcher puts runners on base and is relieved, such pitcher shall be charged with all runs subsequently scored up to and including the number of runners such pitcher left on base when such pitcher left the game, unless such runners are put out without action by the batter (i.e., caught stealing, picked off base or called out for interference when a batter-runner does not reach first base on the play).

So Narveson would have been liable for two runs since Torrealba and Denorfia were his runners left on base. One of the two runs scored, so Narveson would have been charged for one more run had someone else scored, be it Denorfia or one of the guys that reached via fielder's choice.

I really like the potential of Cain and Lucroy in the lineup for a long time. A catcher that can hit, and a CF who can get on base, hit for decent power and steal bases.

And Ryan Braun makes a great catch to make up for the misplay earlier. That'll keep people thinking he's a good defensive outfielder.

Nice job by McNewGuy to get the win. That is two nights in a row solid relief has led to a win. Good times.

Yeah, I have a feeling it'll be asking too much to do it again (win) on Sunday, but I'll take my customary hopeful approach to the park.
Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

And then the Brewers were within >5< games of .500!

Gotta take these little morale victories when they present themselves.
