  1. Currently, the alternate text for all Yuku posticons is "posticon." Instead, alternate text should be specific to each posticon. That will make posticons accessible to those who can't see images. It will also eliminate a "disconnect" between Yuku's posticon administrative interface and the posticon itself.

    Note this screen capture:

"Tickets" is set to be the alternate text. However, rather than "Tickets," "posticon" is what shows up in the HTML on forum pages.

  2. Secondly, it'd be great if each posticon displayed a unique tooltip, both in the post editor and on forum pages. This would enable visual users to ascertain the meaning of the posticon by hovering over it. The tooltip could match the alternate text.

Sample... hover over the "tickets" posticon to see its tooltip:

I would think that dealing with this request would be similar to the emoticon request that was recently worked on.

Summary: When a topic has hidden posts, clicking its "new post" icon will occasionally take members to a blank page that's "tacked on" to the end of the thread. Along with this, there are times when the last page number in the pager next to topic titles takes users to the second last page of the topic.

Reproducibility: Only at certain times

Operating system: All

Browser: All

Steps To

Reproduce:

This is a toughie because it affects mods and admins differently than it affects members. The user's post per page setting definitely matters. But changing one's post per page setting doesn't eliminate the bug. It only changes when it kicks in.

I think the easiest way for developers to see this bug might be to resurrect one or two of the support.yuku.com topics that had lots of hidden posts. Because people weren't playing nice, it's probably better that it be restored to a private forum. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Member-level test accounts belonging to staff could be given access to this forum and could take turns adding posts to this topic. The bug should be visible soon enough.

Rather than spending time doing a lot of testing, my gut says it might be easier to examine the code itself. There's probably some computation that's off. If developers can spot something and make an adjustment, we can put members on notice. If there are no more reports, we can probably assume that the issue has gone away. If not, developers can go back in and take another look.

Actual result: "New post" icons occasionally take users to a blank page that's "tacked on" to the end of a topic. The last page number next to the topic title occasionally takes members to the second last page of the thread.

Expected result: "New post" icons should take users to the first unread message in a thread. The last pager number next to topic titles should take members to the proper page.

Both of these issues (new post icon leading to blank page and last page

number in pager leading to second last page) started after the August

2008 push. My gut says that fixing one issue will take care of the

other.

Summary:
  1. When a member-level profile views a topic with hidden posts, the hidden posts aren't subtracted from the total number of posts. Because of this, when clicking on a link that points directly to a post, the member is frequently taken to a page that's ahead of the page the post is on.

This is most often seen when a member-level profile clicks on the "new post" icon next to the topic title on a forum page and is taken to a blank page at end of the thread. It also occurs when a member clicks on any link pointing directly to a post within a thread.

  2. When a moderator or admin loads a forum page and the topic contains hidden posts, the hidden posts aren't added to the total number of posts. The pager next to the topic will frequently display fewer pages than what are actually in the topic.
Reproducibility: This depends on the total number of posts in a topic, the number of hidden posts in a topic, and the number of posts per page a user is viewing. (Adjusting one's posts per page setting doesn't eliminate the bug; it only changes when the problems kick in.)

Operating system: All

Browser / Browser Version: All

Steps To

Reproduce:

  1. Member-level: As many "direct-to-post" links show breakage, you don't have to wait for the "new post" icon to mess up in order to land on the wrong page. Looking at the examples below in a member-level account set to display 20 posts per page should do the trick.

    [/li]
  2. Admin/mod-level:
[li]With a moderator- or administrator-level profile, go to this forum: Administrator - moderator pager bug samples. Account preferences can be set to display 10, 20, or 30 posts per page.

    1. Note the number of pages listed in the pagers next to each topic title.
    2. Open each topic and note that the last page number listed on the forum page isn't the last page of the thread.
(If a staff account doesn't produce the results described in the topic

titles and leads, feel free to log into support.brewersfandemonium.

    "He's" a moderator.)[/li]

Actual result:
  1. In topics with hidden posts, clicking "direct-to-post" links frequently takes members to a later page in the topic than intended.

  2. On forum pages, when topics contain hidden posts, administrators and moderators frequently see the pager display fewer pages than are actually in the topic.

Expected result:
  1. Clicking on "direct-to-post" links should take members directly to the correct message.
  2. The pager next to topic titles should display the correct number of pages to admins and mods.
