MLB Network just gave a live look-in during the last two AB's against Axford. Dan Plesac called the final two pitches to Castro right on the nose. The mental exercises he went through were exactly why I loved pitching.

He said Axford has been having trouble getting the curve over for strikes. When it was 2-0 on Castro, Plesac was saying what a horrible feeling that is when you know you are a one-pitch pitcher at the moment. He said Axford knew the fastball was the only thing he could get over and of course, Castro knew that, too, and would be teeing off. Got a fastball on 2-0 and Castro just missed, fouling it back. On 2-1, Plesac went all next-level thinking and said Axford should try the curve again, figuring Castro would be sitting dead red and maybe Axford could take advantage of his aggressiveness and get him to hack at one. Sure enough, Castro misses a curve in the dirt. Final pitch, Plesac said he should now go back to the fastball and elevate it. Bam.

Hit 95 MPH on that last one, btw.

Gomez could be an option at clean up, but I don't think he could handle it mentally.

Going back to the Cubs half of the 7th, is it weird that if I were the Cubs, I would've risked trying to get a SB from Barney on the first pitch with Szmasdyadudsa up? Axford is pretty easy to steal against and Barney is fast. Get him to 2nd and THEN bunt him over to get a guy on 3rd with less than 2 outs.

Gameday had Axford anywhere from 92 to 96 on the 4 seamer. If he sits at 95 he's alright.

OK, clearly the most exciting play in baseball is any play at the plate. Triples are stand up obvious ones half the time, and often same with IPHR or they wouldn't be sent home

Axford's velocity was fine. IIRC he's always around 92-94 early in the season and he was 94-96 by the end of the inning.

I would rather weeks try to bunt than swing. I have zero confidence in him doing anything productive by swinging. Even though he probably can't bunt either but those are big runs out there...

At this point in the game it's irrelevant that he's hitting fourth. Even one run here is huge, and the way weeks has swung the bar the last week or two, his best chance to help the team is to bunt IMO.

What the....that was the dumbest thing ever. Awesome. Way to totally botch that.
