I'm not a Mark Murphy fan whatsoever, but it wasn't all on Ted either. There was some very well thought-of personnel guys in the front office who whiffed on those picks too.

+1 Murphy deserves a lot of blame as well.

My thought on Thompson has always been that he mistook some of his luck early on for thinking you can build a contender that way every year. They won the title with guys like Shields and Starks playing huge roles and this reinforced his belief that he could do that all the time. He didn't need to sign any needs because he could find them as street FA after the draft. Basically he was able to draft and develop so quickly that he got overconfident. If it had taken them longer to win the Super Bowl I don't think he would have been so stuck in his ways.

I was so high on MVS coming into the season. But he hasn't matured really at all as a receiver. He's fast, but nothing else has gotten better. He's going to have to do something quick to not get on the Jeff Janis career path.
