Corey Knebel/Brewers agree on 1 year deal, avoiding arbitration

If he is able to come back to where he was before, this is a huge addition. Not just because of what he brings specifically but CC would also be able to use Hader in the that fireman role and not just be limited to the end of the game.

Hopefully he is healing well I haven't heard much of an update.

Here's a question: if Knebel return to form, does he slot in as the "closer" and Hader moves back to a roving fireman role?

In general, yes. I don't think they ever wanted Hader to be locked into the closer role anyway, they just ran out of alternatives.

I would still expect to see both get plenty of closing opportunities based on availability and game situations.

That's a bummer but not too unexpected. I would think though, barring any setbacks that this isn't something that should keep getting pushed back and pushed back like Nelson's return the last 18 months.

I assumed he wouldn't be ready for opening day. Agreed with adambr2 that this likely has a more definitive recovery time due to how common tommy john surgery is and it's a more successful recovery than anything with the shoulder.

There was a mention on MLBTR a cpl or 3days ago that Corey Kneble would begin throwing in near future. I believe it was mentioned he wouldn't be ready to begin the season. You can probably go to Mlbtraderumors.com and look under Milwaukee and find it within a few posts.

Edit here just did it myself. Taken from Mlbtr

Brewers’ reliever Corey Knebel is progressing well from March 2019 Tommy John surgery, manager Craig Counsell told reporters (including Adam McCalvy of MLB.com). Knebel won’t be ready for the start of the season, but he’ll begin throwing from a mound next week as he ramps up his rehab, McCalvy reports. Knebel signed a one-year, $5.125MM contract to avoid arbitration in December, suggesting the club believes he’ll make an impact in 2020

I believe I saw that he was hoping to be ready to go by mid-April. But considering the Brewers seem to be overly cautious, and he will likely need to go out for a rehab assignment, I don't think we'll see him until sometime in May.

I don't think this will happen at least in the first half of the season. They will want to ease Knebel back into things. I also think that Hader will push back on the idea because he seems to feel that the reason he isn't getting the money he wants this year is because he didn't have the saves some others did.
