Since the day of trading for Yelich and signing Cain, the Brewers have operated in an almost methodical way. Don’t get too high, don’t get too low. As scary as it is to write this, I agree with you that the Brewers have the division winning team and while they need to take care of business, they really need to make sure the roster is is good healthy shape going into the playoffs. It’s not just Misiorowski that they’re playing that balancing act with. It’s basically every starter on the 40 man. we’ve seen the slow transition to this new infield. First it was building the Ortiz/Hamilton platoon and now it’s inserting Pratt into the primary SS role. we’ve seen the transition in the OF to more Bauers and less Frelick. I don’t have the data or research to back up this claim, but it “feels” like Murphy has eased up on riding certain bull pen arms at an unsustainable pace. Slow and steady, this team is building the division winning team and fine tuning it into a team that can really compete in the playoffs.

Hopefully we can get 5-6 innings from Drohan (he’s gone at least 5 in his last two starts). Would be nice to use some of the B bullpen today and have the A pen a little more rested for the Atlanta series. bit of a Sunday line up today, but we are already spoiled with how many games Contreras plays. Between Perkins, Mitchell, and Frelick against a lefty I can’t complain too much that Perkins got the call.

Brewers' Quinn Priester To Have Season-Ending Surgery
long ball replied to Steve Drumwright's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
A real bummer, but I, like many other fans, had already written him off as a contributor to the 2026 season. let’s hope for a successful surgery, recovery, and return to his 2025 form. it does make you wonder how much the Brewers were counting on Priester coming into the season. They made a late off season trade to bring in Harrison and Drohan. If we wouldn’t have done that we’d be in a world of hurt given the injuries to Woody, Crow, and Henderson along with the shaky results from Gasser and Sproat. -
I liked the move in context of the off-season. They made a late trade of Durbin and needed a veteran stop gap. It didn’t work and they’re moving on at an appropriate time. I don’t think it hurt us in the W/L column to stick with Rengifo for a month longer than most of us message board commenters wanted. the DFA definitely cleared up what the Brewers intention with Pratt is for the rest of the year. If it were just an IL stint for Rengifo that would’ve left things unclear.

When they showed he threw 80+ pitches on the broadcast last night I figured he’d start in about a week. I kinda think they’ll roll with a 6 man rotation till the all star break if Woodruff does in fact get activated next week. the one tricky part about being activated against the reds is that he will probably face the reds twice in a row. Maybe that’s not such a big deal because the reds offense is stinky, but since he’s more of a “crafty vet” At this point it would be nice if he didn’t have a second match up against the same team in the span of a week.

I agree the bar is quite low since the current guys haven’t hit well. But our glove first infielders have all struggled at the plate during their early years (Hardy, Escobar, Arcia, and Turang). Ironically, Joey Ortiz was by far the best hitter in his first real big league stint compared to that group. As I mentioned in my post, I agree with the move to promote Pratt. I hope he runs with it, but I have low expectations that he will be an upgrade offensively. I hope I’m wrong!

I'm not sure there's a "serious push" unless Attanasio gets into meddling with the baseball ops side. At least as far as outside acquisitions go. Might be a more nuanced push like taking Contreras or Turang through to free agency.

I’m not all that optimistic that Pratt will be an upgrade offensively. However, I am glad they’re bringing him up to the majors. I mentioned this on Spencer’s Cooper Pratt primer, but we are going to be promoting a bunch of position players over the next 2-3 seasons. Staggering their promotions over the course of a couple seasons theoretically helps that transition to the next core of the position players. I’m thinking at least Pratt, Williams, Made, Lara, and Quero will all be in prominent roles by mid 2027 season.

The Brewers have debuted several glove first, top 100ish short stop prospects ober the past 20ish years. Here’s how they did: 2005 Hardy: age 22, 84 wRC+ in 427 PA. 2010 Escobar: age 23 (although he had a cup of coffee in 2008 and 2009), 62 wRC+ in 552 PA 2015 Arcia: age 21, 65 wRC+ in 216 PA (86 wRC+ in 2017 across 548 PA) 2023 Turang: age 23, 61 wRC+ in 448 PA 2024 Ortiz: age 25, 105 wRC+ in 511 PA. My point isn’t to make direct comparisons about the careers or specific skills, I was just curious to see how these guys hit during their debut and overall they pretty much stunk at the plate. So we may not see much if any improvement offensively, but as Spencer noted it probably won’t get worse. at least this way Pratt will have a half season of big league experience going into the next season. We will be debuting plenty position players over the next few years and it’s nice to stagger them since they’ll likely all go through some growing pains.

Ya I suppose Zastryzny not getting into that blow out game on Monday night should’ve been a clue. -

I agree. He’s the only guy who makes sense. other guys either either can’t be recalled unless there’s an injury replacement or pitched too recently to be lined up to start today. the only other thing I could think of would be Koenig being activated and listed as the SP (opener) -

Murph alluded to a roster move. Given the options in AAA I’m guessing Hardin. Gasser and Carlos Rodriguez need to be an injury replacement. Pannone won’t be ready for a start till Friday. Kuehner hasn’t been that good. So my guess is some combo of Hardin, Sproat, and Crow. or it’s something goofy like Zastryzny gets the first inning followed by Patrick -

I imagine Zastryzny gets an inning tonight. The. The question is can you trust Woodford with a lead.
