The first game of today's Mudcats' doubleheader is under way, in which the teams will complete the remaining 8 1/2 innings from Tuesday's rainout. RHP Edwin Jimenez (3.75 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 9.8 K/9 in 12 innings) gets the start and DH Micah Bello tries to climb back to a .400 AVG (.388 AVG, .456 OBP, .633 SLG):

3 walks and a single off Mr. Jimenez thankfully only produced one run in the Wood Ducks’ 2nd inning. A fly ball double play (LF Arbert Cipion to 3B Alberis Ferrer) helped limit the damage. Mudcats are down 1-0.

19-year old Rangers' prospect OF Alejandro Osuna homered for Down East in the 4th inning. Carolina is down 2-1.

Still missing 1B Ernesto Martinez and 2B Tyler Black, Wisconsin's counting on LHP Antoine Kelly to throw another gem (5 innings, no walks, 1 hit, 7Ks in a win last week) to even this week's series in Peoria:

Given a 6th inning of work in spite of being at 73 pitches, RHP Edwin Jimenez and the team conceded a run on a sacrifice fly after a double. The Mudcats are down 1-3 entering the 7th inning.

Jimenez exits after 6 innings (89 pitches), giving way to RHP Christian Tripp. DH Micah Bello has reached base 3 times (hit-by-pitch, two singles) and will hopefully come up with a chance to play hero in the 9th.

Down East manufactured a run (single, steal, sac fly) off of Tripp to extend the lead to 4-1. Alberis Ferrer has unfortunately K'd for the 4 time in this game (once on Tuesday, 3 tonight).

Arbert Cipion scored on a passed ball (after reaching on an infield single) to cut the deficit to 4-2 in the 8th inning. The opposing reliever just exited with an injury in the middle of Jeferson Quero's at-bat.

Thank you Wood Ducks. They welcomed their new reliever by committing consecutive throwing errors, allowing Eduardo Garcia (singled earlier) to score to cut it to 4-3. Then Hedbert Perez doubled in two unearned runs, which count just as well in the box score. It's 5-4 Mudcats entering the bottom of the 8th inning.

Down East has tied it up at 5-5 against Mr. Tripp on a walk, stolen base and base hit. Manager Estevez likely needs to hand the ball to one of his fresh, struggling relievers (Tietz, Rodriguez, Ramey, Brustoski, Zhao - none of whom has pitched since April 24th or has an ERA below 10.00).

In the top of the 9th inning, Eduardo Garcia hits a sacrifice fly to score Jheremy Vargas, who'd reached on Wood Duck third baseman Derwin Barreto's 3rd throwing error in 2 innings. It's 6-5 Carolina!

AAA Nashville needs a win to even this week's series in St. Paul 2-2, turning to dominant LHP Ethan Small (0.49 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 11.8 K/9 in 18 1/3 innings). CF Jonathan Davis leads off for his first game action since April 9th. SS Brice Turang has an 8-game hitting streak:

2B Ethan Murray has hit his first home run of 2022, driving in Zavier Warren who had singled. The Timber Rattlers lead the Chiefs 2-1 in the second inning.

Sweet! Tristan Peters has followed up to hit his first homer of 2022, a 3-run shot to score Carlos D. Rodriguez and Antonio Pinero who had both singled. Wisconsin leads 5-1, still in the 2nd inning.

Pensacola manufactured a run in the 2nd inning (walk, steal, RBI groundout), while their 19(!)-year old starting pitcher Eury Perez struck out the first 5 Shuckers he faced. Biloxi is down 0-1 in the 3rd inning.
