Sigh... no extension buzz anywhere

Posted

The Athletic is doing an MLB contract extension week and so far Burnes, Woodruff, and Adames have been included. These suggested extensions would kick in immediately this season.

Burnes - 7/$185M with a player opt out somewhere

Woodruff - 6/$130M

Adames - 5/$92M

Personally I think the Adames suggestion is laughable. Don't think there's any chance Adames would sign an extension that only buys out 3 FA years and makes him a FA at the awkward age of 32. I also think Woodruff over Burnes at those numbers especially because Burnes has a player opt out in the suggestion.

Yah, the Adames one is weird. I am not even an Adames fan, but I don't see any reason he would command $125mil-$150mil on a lengthy extension.

Of course, he won't accept $92mil or even $150mil because he is delusional and talks like he is comparable to the elites of this past winter's FA class.

We can't afford Burnes, Adames definitely doesn't seem like a reasonable guy at the bargaining table, and Woodruff...well who knows about him. Even Woodruff doesn't have much risk left. Even if he put together two very disappointing seasons the guy would still get well over $50mil in the most disastrous situation. That will be after already making over $30mil in arby years.

That Woody extension is great, sign him to it now!

Given the many prospects the Brewers have at shortstop in the system, I think they've realized that dealing Adames is the best option.

It's possible that's their stance but it's impossible for a team to have too many shortstops.

Anyone else think we should be extending Urias?

He is young and versatile. With his recent injury struggles, we might be get a decent price.
