Brewers Minor League Link Report (7/13): Well, There Went Most of Friday's Positive Vibes

Let's breakdown the Saturday on the farm.

Transactions:

• Nashville Sounds sent 3B Christian Arroyo on a rehab assignment to ACL Brewers.
• Carolina Mudcats sent RHP Gerson Calzadilla on a rehab assignment to ACL Brewers.

This is Arroyo's 2nd rehab stint in Maryvale. His first began on June 15th and ended after one week and three games (1-for-10, 1 BB, 4 K).

Though the Mudcats' Cooper Pratt popped out in his lone Futures Game at-bat, he made his mark later on -

Sounds Come Up Just Short Versus I-Cubs in Front of the Largest Crowd of the Season - Isaac Collins has two-RBI triple in 4-3 loss

Down 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth, the Sounds had two runners on base with zero outs courtesy of singles by Joey Wiemer and Francisco Mejía. But a strikeout, caught stealing and another strikeout ended the comeback effort and Nashville’s five-game winning streak.

The inning actually happened this way, as per the game log, with a force-out at second base off the bat of Brewer Hicklen. With the tying run on 3rd base and one out, Hicklen was caught trying to steal second base. That wasn't wise or fortunate. Wes Clarke fanned to end things.

Tyler Black had the night off.

Joey Wiemer and Owen Miller had matching doubles, singles and walks.

RHP's Taylor Clarke and Evan McKendry walked zero and fanned seven in their combined 8.1 innings of four run ball (three earned), with Kevin Herget retiring the only two batters he faced in between their outings.

Isaac Collins looked wonderful with this smoke show liner, but playing second base, his second inning throwing error led to an unearned run that proved costly given the final score.

Shuckers Fall to Lookouts on Saturday Night - Rodriguez hits first home run of the season in multi-RBI effort, Martinez tallies three hits

Normally we accentuate the positive whenever we can. But the fact that starter Logan Henderson was touched for three home runs in his three-inning outing is such an outlier, many of you may wish to see those three pitches (all fastballs, it appears). The Chattanooga "X" feed obliges (it includes the Lookouts' 4th HR of the game as well, surrendered by TJ Shook on an off-speed pitch).

Speaking of outliers, the "D" in Carlos D. Rodriguez' name does not stand for "deep fly", but here we go:

Ernesto Martinez doubled, singled twice and walked. Reaching base four times will nearly always net you a Link Report mention. Martinez also with one of his patented stretches here:

Dylan O'Rae walked twice, he's walked 11.8% of the time at AA, and with the lack of base hits thus far at that level, the walk pace will need to bump up even further. O'Rae is now 41-for-48 in SB attempts with a successful one in this game.

Eric Brown, Jr. missed a second consecutive game, will he play in the final game before the break?

Mudcats Swept In Doubleheader 

Sadly, the team used that same subject line when the Mudcats last played on Thursday. At least the Mudcats scored on Saturday.

This was pretty, though (how was it not mentioned in the brief recap linked above?)

RHP Josh Knoth walked two and struck out nine in 4.2 innings (80 pitches). One of his four runs allowed was after the left the game.

So, we linked to the pitches Logan Henderson surrendered bombs on above. We don't want to make this a regular feature, but since the Mudcats bats were quiet in this game, you can watch the Josh Knoth pitches here and here.

In the nightcap, the offensive highlight was LF Luis Castillo's three walks, that'll tell you something.

Very encouraging line from 19-year-old RHP Bishop Letson, and you can watch the last of his six K's here.

24-year-old "veteran" infielder Jose Acosta sat out both games, odd with Cooper Pratt's infield absence. Speaking of which, have we checked Pratt's plane tickets? What is his post-Futures Game destination?

Down 2-1 heading into the final inning on the road, the A-Crew rallied for four runs. The go-ahead knock was an RBI double by shortstop Tyler Rodriguez.

Hey, how about more Carolina speculation? 

You know who didn't play in this game before Sunday's day off in Maryvale? Third baseman Eric Bitonti, second baseman Josh Adamczewski, for that matter, throw in defensively-challenged catcher Edgardo Ordonez and his seven home runs. Oh, can't wait for some roster shakeups...

Kudos, 19-year-old southpaw Bjorn Johnson, outstanding line.
