Breakdown
It was a weird week for the Brewers. It’s the point of the season where the All-Star break is approaching fast, and it looks like this team could use it. Some of the hotter bats have gone cold, and players like Joey Ortiz can’t seem to shake the nagging injuries bothering them. The pitching staff has been stretched incredibly thin, with emergency signing Dallas Keuchel earning multiple starts.
The week started in Colorado, where the Brewers earned a series split. All four games were close, with Brewers manager Pat Murphy going on record to say like they felt like they could’ve won all four. The highlight of the series was Colin Rea, who twirled seven scoreless innings in one of the two victories.
The series in Los Angeles wouldn’t fare better. Again, the Brewers bullpen would continue to struggle uncharacteristically, and they’d lose the first two games late. Home Runs from Eric Hasse and Christain Yelich would jump-start the offense in game three early, allowing the Brewers to avoid their first four-game losing streak of the season after a 9-2 victory.
Highlights
Eric Hasse’s first bomb of the season.
The second homerun in as many days for Yelich.
Hoskins and the Brewers can’t stop hitting Grand Slams.
How about this play from Brice Turang?
Yelich’s first of three homers this week.
