There is no way we should trade Greinke...unless Hanley Ramirez is available via trade. I would consider that move to be acceptable in returned value for the Brewers, young franchise type position player. It would be a shame since we still need the pitching, but you got to play the cards your dealt. I wouldn't mind getting a pitcher back, but whoever is going to trade for Greinke is not looking to give up pitching but to acquire it. So we probably would get a nice position player back. Wouldn't mind someone like Votto to fill 1B in return for Zack.

Alternatives for shortstop?
tony2sweet replied to Schlitz001's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I would maybe give the Mets a call and see what it would take to get Jose Reyes. If healthy he would be a lead-off option. I just don't no if we would have the pieces to make a deal work. Some Brewers fans may not like this idea, but if we are going all in this year I would take a chance on a guy that can be a beast and use an old reliable in Counsell as my fall back option. I think that if he panned out he would be worth the risk and fill a need. -
I'm not sure if Edmonds has retired or signed with anyone, but I don't think he would be a bad option in CF. Maybe a platoon of Gomez and Edmonds could work in 2011? Just throwing a name out there that could be cost effective for the Brewers. He also seemed to enjoy his brief stay in Milwaukee last year. If Jim any gas left in the tank I think he would be a good veteran presence for a potential playoff contender.

I'm not sure if any has mentioned this but Mark Buehrle is being made available by the White Sox. He does not seem like a bad option at this point. Maybe we could work an extension out with him, if we can get a trade worked out. He would be playing close to Chicago, not sure if thats where he resides or not. Just another name to throw in the hat to fix this rotation. I'm not sure what it would take to get him. Billihallfan, I saw a guy get the same Cirillo photo signed that you posted, my bad. The Brewers "The Franchise" lithograph was created after the Brewers fans voted on the 25th anniversary team in 1994. Its has all the players from that team and was autographed by the entire 25th team as well. The artist is Terrence Fogarty. I think its a pretty rare item. I had only seen it at county stadium when I was a kid. I got lucky on ebay one day and there it was. Its signed by: Yount Molitor Gantner Cooper Oglivie Thomas Fingers Simmons Vuckovich Caldwell G. Vaughn Money

Billyhallfan, I think I saw you get Cirillo's sig. on your 11x14 at the On Deck, I was just behind you. I know your a big collector, would have loved to talk to ya about this Brewers print I just got framed called "The Franchise" and what its worth. Any way, I ended up getting my grey Russell Athletic 25th anniversary Diamond Collection Cirillo jersey signed as well as my Greg Vaughn 1992 pinstripe Rawlings button up. Vaughn put 93, 96 and 98 A.S. for his all star years, even though I only wanted his 93 year. I also got Gorman Thomas on a 1982 powder blue number 20 jersey I had made overseas. Good day overall.

I know that Doug Melvin had some intrest in the Pirates starters (Duke and Maholm) when he was looking to deal Hardy. Do you think he could work out a deal to get Ohlendorf. He's 6'4" like 245 lbs, he's a beast. I think he is like 27 years old or about there. He had a 3.92 ERA and pitched around 170 innings winning 11 games. I'm not sure what his contract status is, but I think it could be affordable for Brewers. I saw him pitch against the Brewers and he looked good. Just an idea I thought I would throw out there. Corey Hart could get it done value wise. I'm not quite sure what the Pirates outfield will look like next year so it may or may not work. Any thoughts?

Sounds like the Yankees are going to non tender Wang. I would give him a 2 year deal without thinking twice. Yankees Likely To Non-Tender Wang 12th December, 2009 - 11:14 am MLB.com - The Yankees appear Clikely to non-tender pitcher Chien-Ming Wang by Saturday's midnight deadline. The move would make the former 19-game winner a free agent. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said that the club is still considering their options regarding Wang. Wang's agent, Alan Nero, said on Friday that he has been led to believe that the Yankees will non-tender Wang, at which point he will begin to engage any interested clubs on the open market.

Just read this article on foxsports.com and thought George Sherrill might a nice player to add to the pen with Mark DiFelice out. Not sure what it would take to get him from the Dodgers, maybe Dave Bush? The Dodgers have a number of young relief pitchers coveted by other teams, including Ronald Belisario, Hong-Chih Kuo and Ramon Troncoso. But when teams have inquired about those relievers, according to one rival executive, they have been encouraged to instead submit proposals for left-hander George Sherrill. It appears that Sherrill is available for two main reasons: He's about to earn a raise (perhaps as high as $4 million) through salary arbitration; and he had a lousy NLCS against the Phillies. The Dodgers are looking for a starter in exchange for Sherrill. FOX Sports

Too bad Redd's contract didn't come off the books after this season. I'm not sure but I think Ray Allen is a free agent following this year. I would love to see him back in Milwaukee to finish his career next to Jennings. After next season 2010/11 when Redd is off the books we will be able to make up for a draft day mistake. Dirk Nowitzki is a free agent. I would love to see that. I also think Amar'e Stoudemaire is a free agent as well at the end of that season 2010/11. We may be one to two players away from being contenders in the east. I hope Hammonds makes the right choices. -
Brewers want to lock up Fielder long-term
tony2sweet replied to sargennm's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I would love to see the Brewers lock Prince up long term. Will it happen? Not quite sure yet. I do think it looks better than it did 1 year ago. If the Brewers were looking to make a trade with Prince, if an extension can't be worked out then i would look for a deal with the Dodgers. I would allow them to work out an extension with Fielder first and pick a prospect at AA. Next I would ask for C. Kershaw, J. Loney and R. Martin. After that I say .. if they agree is done deal. Oh and thank you...very much! -
What would you think of adding Pudge Rodriguez as our backup catcher to Lucroy next year. Pudge could also start and tutor Lucroy. He would be a great guy to learn from. I would much rather have Rodriguez a future hall of famer than Kendall imo. I think Rodriguez is a type B so it would cost a pick. I'm not sure if its worth it, but it's another option for the crew.

Lowe coming in, Suppan going out...
tony2sweet replied to rousieboy's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Sources: Braves finding it tough to shop Lowe /id/9809468_36_2.jpg by Ken Rosenthal Braves right-hander Derek Lowe turns 37 on June 1. He is guaranteed $15 million in each of the next three seasons. And he had a 6.65 ERA in his final nine starts. So, while Lowe is the starting pitcher the Braves most want to trade, they are finding it difficult to move him, according to major-league sources. The Braves' most extensive discussions concerning Lowe have been with the Brewers about a trade for outfielder Corey Hart, according to one source. But the Brewers are not sure they would want Lowe even if the Braves included significant money in the deal, another source says. Privately, though, the Braves are not discouraged. They believe that if Lowe were a free agent, only one starting pitcher - right-hander John Lackey - would be in higher demand. And they believe that the early interest in Lowe indicates that a trade is possible later in the off-season. Lowe finished 15-10 with a 4.67 ERA last season. He allowed 232 hits, the most of any National League pitcher. But he had 21 quality starts, five fewer than the league leader - and NL Cy Young Award winner - Tim Lincecum. Take away three poor starts, and Lowe's ERA would have been 3.87. Still, teams might prefer to sign less accomplished free-agent pitchers for lesser dollars. The Braves, who have told clubs that they will move a veteran starting pitcher, instead might trade right-hander Javier Vazquez, who is three years younger than Lowe, less expensive at $11.5 milllion and has only one year left on his contract. /id/10399544_36_2.jpg Derek Lowe. (Kevin C. Cox / Getty Images) Trading Lowe, though, is the Braves' preferred option. The Angels, who showed interest in Lowe about a month ago, according to sources, could use him to replace Lackey in their rotation. The Braves, seeking a right-handed hitter, like Angels outfielder Juan Rivera. Angels owner Arte Moreno, however, told FOXSports.com's Jon Paul Morosi on Thursday that he has roughly $12 million to spend on improving the club - and he is still trying to sign Lackey, third baseman Chone Figgins and possibly designated hitter Vladimir Guerrero. The White Sox are another potential match for Lowe - first baseman Paul Konerko, another right-handed hitter who would fit the Braves, will earn $12 million next season. Konerko, however, has only one more year remaining on his contract, while Lowe has three years at greater dollars. The Brewers, anxious to bolster their starting pitching, possess more spending power than many clubs. But the team is reluctant to take on Lowe at his age and salary, sources say. After this season, the Brewers will be free of right-hander Jeff Suppan, 34, who is guaranteed $12.5 million in 2010. Lowe is a better pitcher than Suppan, but the Brewers fear taking on another burdensome contract. Hart, 27, is two years away from free agency, and will receive a raise from $3.25 million in arbitration. He is coming off a disappointing season in which he missed more than a month with appendicitis, but the Braves have maintained steady interest in him. -
