  1. Thanks for the help BF.net we got ourselves a winner!!
  2. Thanks again for all the votes guys, my son and I really appreciate it. For winning a daily entry we got a 20 dollar gift certificate to espn.com, they say there is a grand prize but we dont have high expectations, I just want Jack to be able to tell his friends at school. I posted this on two music sites that I frequent as well as my facebook page, but didnt go nuts with it. Thanks again. SFC
  3. Thanks for all the votes and regarding the kids rooting for other teams. My dad grew up in Ohio and is a big Indians fan and moved to Milwaukee right before I was born and so I have been on both sides of the father/son cheering thing. I told the kids which teams they couldnt root for but after that I let them decide for themselves, and living in Atlanta I knew the risk I was taking.
  4. Here is the story FYI: While there were many great games in 2010, the one that mattered most to me was a mid-season baseball game between two mediocre teams. A little background. I am a father of three wonderful children who up until Thanksgiving of 2009 lived right down the road from me outside of Atlanta. This allowed me to coach their teams, be involved in their schools, have daddy dates, etc. At that time my ex moved the children to California which was a blow of epic proportions to my psyche and mental health. While I went to see them as much as possible and talked to them it was not the same. The one thing my oldest son and I would always talk about was sports, especially baseball. I was born in Milwaukee and am a die hard Brewers fan, my son growing up in Atlanta is a Braves fan, and for years we had always made a date to go watch their "battles" when the Brewers would come to Atlanta. So this summer my ex and I had decided on the dates when I was going to have the children by the luck of the draw or a higher power the Brewers were in town. We decided to get a large group together to have a great tailgate (I am from Wisconsin after all) and were at the stadium early with some brats, cornhole, etc. I was decked out in all my Brewers gear and of course Jackson was in everything Braves and we spent the week leading up to the game talking smack as only a father and son can. We went to the game and had a blast, a group of 20 of us, but everyone was most worried to make sure my kids had a great time. Well, by a miracle the Brewers won and of course we had some fun with that. After the game we stayed in the parking lot and waited until traffic let out and for some reason security never kicked us out. We stayed in the parking lot listening to our favorite music, throwing the football and frisbee and eating the leftovers for 3 hours after the game, playing by the lights of the stadium. The next day I was taking the kids back to their mother and Jackson and I were talking about the game and I told him that I was glad the Brewers won and he told me, "It didn't matter Dad, I will remember yesterday forever." I watch all kinds of games and am very lucky to be able to attend games all over the country, but a June game between the Brewers and Braves was the best game of the year.
  5. Good morning: ESPN.com had a contest in December about your favorite sporting event in 2010 and I wrote a story about my son and I going to a Brewers game and it was picked as the daily winner and now is in the finals. Could you please vote for the Dec 1st entry (Scott Cain) so my son can tell all his friends he was a winner on espn. Voting ends tomorrow and we are currently in 2nd place. I appreciate your help. http://m.espn.go.com/wire...d=5866540&topId=null ScottC
  6. I live in town and will be at all three games. We will have a nice sized tailgate set up along the row of trees (the only place you can have an open flame at Turner Field) on Saturday, brewer flags, chairs, jerseys, etc, should be easish to pick out stop by if ya want. A few things 1. Rent a car- Marta only goes N/S & E/W, anything off the trail is going to be buses and that is where MARTA gets sketchy real quick. Regarding going to the game on MARTA that is fine, but you either have to get on the bus or walk the 3/4 mile (which I suggest, its not bad and there are people everywhere). 2. Sweetwater is by far and away the better of the Breweries, highly suggest that one. 3. Buckhead is really no longer the buckhead of old. There are still shopping and upscale resturants, but the party scene of the past is dead and gone. If you want to do that I would suggest some of the villages around downtown, like Virginia Highlands, Little 5 Pts, Inman Park, Grant Park, Decatur or Midtown for a little bit more upscale. These all have a number of bars around and there will be people wandering on Friday or Sat night. 4. Regarding safety, the rule of thumb is anywhere below i-20 is questionable and dont go downtown at night unless there is something going on. Midtown is fine (the portion of downtown across from Georgia Tech/Atlantic Station) and there is always something going on there. 5. If it is your first time coming you have to go to the Claremont Lounge, easily the most famous place in town and the one where there is not anything else like it in the world. Just trust me (assuming its a bunch of guys, but the place is usually 50% hot women on the weekends, of course not the performers). 6. DO NOT GO TO UNDERGROUND ATLANTA. NOT SAFE. Is only cleaned up when the Olympics, Super Bowl, Final Four, etc is in town. 7. Another great place to eat is Fox Brox BBQ, good old fashion southern BBQ and good tunes playing. 8. The Bodies exhibit is at Atlantic Station right now if you are interested in that. So there is a bit for you. I am in your age-range and live here and can probably help you with whatever you need. Feel free to send me a PM or stop by the tailgate on Saturday and have a beer. Cheers ScottC
  7. Okay, so there are questions about the pitching staff, there are worries about relievers, will Billy Hall ever be back, can Corey Hart forget about the last half of last year, will Prince play better without the contract issues, will Rickie ever reach his potential, etc etc. But the fact is today is the best day of the year. All those questions will be answered and more questions will come about, but as always the wonderfulness of Opening Day is here. For over 30 years people and ideas have let me down, but I can count on the Brewers, and while they have let me down (and surely will again) I can count on every year about this time getting excited over what might be and the enjoyment of watching them play. I can count on getting excited for today like it is the first day of the rest of the year. I can count on screaming when someone does something right or wrong and acting as if it is my team. I can count on brats on the grill tonight, as I have done for every year of my life (thanks Dad) to signify the beginning of baseball season. I know it is cheesy but today is my Christmas and I know I am not the only one who feels that way.
  8. quick question for you guys. I am in Chicago and am going to drive north tonight to get a bunch of Brewers gear....kinda hard to find in Atlanta and I was wondering if I only make one stop where should I go? I wont be in town in time to make the store at the stadium, so what other suggestions do you have? Thanks ScottC
  9. The accuscore projection has it at 49-51% phils victory......so just like everyone else they are saying who knows??
  10. and as a falcons fan and brewer fan, I hope that all the Pack fans are sad about no coverage and getting beat by the burner....
  11. Gotta go with the big man Seth McClung if Soup struggles...
  12. 26 years later..... an October victory..... so sweet.
  13. If Victorino does it again, I will not count Hawaii as part of the US.
  14. Dont stress the double play is forthcoming...... 4-6-3
