  1. Bashore, the Indiana lefty, looked awfully good on Friday too, shutting down a Minnesota team that has been swinging the bat very well against everybody else in the Big Ten tourney. I think Bashore has now won 5 of his last 6 or something like that. It is my understanding that he is projected somewhere in the 2nd-4th round range, looking to be toward the upper end of that range on Friday.
  2. How about Wily Aybar as an option? He has more experience at 3B than 2B but can play second. Plus, Melvin has made two minor type trades with Tampa in the last few years (Gross for Butler and Balfour for McClung).
  3. thanks.
  4. I am wondering if anyone knows of C. Scarpetta's status? I can't find him on any roster. He was the high school pitcher drafted out of Rockford last summer. Any info anyone? Thanks.
  5. Former Schofield DC Everest football and basketball player Matt Nohelty is having another excellent year as the Minn Gophers CFer. He's hitting just under 400 (397) in 47 games, has an OB% of 438, 79 hits, 41 runs, 35 RBIs, 22 SBs, hitting lead off. I don't know for sure where he fits in the draft but he may be the first or among the first players drafted this June with Wisconsin ties. I've read on the Baseball America website that he figures somewhere in rounds 5-10. He's athletic but without much power.
  6. Thanks Colby. It will be interesting to see if he holds up this spring against what looks (again) to be pretty strong Pac 10 competition.
  7. A lot of posters would like to see the Brewers draft a catcher. I see that Jason Castro at Stanford is catching this year, having played 1st last year, and off to a very impressive start with his left handed bat including hitting for power against Texas. Reports have always said he has a strong arm. Anybody know much about him? Are his receiving skills substandard? I haven't read much about him as a top prospect but his start this year is interesting. Any insights anybody?
  8. Me too---let the ridicule continue---but I thought Podsednik could be serviceable in Milw next year too. I also think, flaws and all, he's a better player than Gabe Gross, although, of course, neither is as good as Greg Gross.

  10. thanks guys
  11. Maybe I'm the one seeing things but.....after Lidege struck out a taking Hart in the 9th on the borderline call.......did anyone else see Lidge point at his eyes while looking in at Hart and then see Hart do a double take looking back out at the mound? The tv announcers didn't say anything, so they must not have seen it, so no replay.....don't know why I'm not trusting my eyes...but anybody else see this? If anyone was listening to the radio broadcast, did Uecker comment? Anyway, living well (back to back jacks) is the best revenge.
  12. I think those suggesting an 08 Zona league debut for Guzman are likely correct. One of the Brewers' top Latin signs in 06 was Edgar Trejo who is 17. He made his debut this summer in the Zona League, is hitting third and by most a stat analyses is doing just fine, hitting over 300. Howvever, one distinction with Trejo and Guzman, if my memory is correct, is that Trejo was a very late sign----maybe even after the 06 season was completed.
  13. The latest issue of Baseball America reported the Brewers signed Domincan top prospect outfielder Itaniel Arias Guzman. BA also reported a $450,000.00 signing bonus. I have not seen this reported elsewhere. If true, this is a significant signing. The Brewers supposedly won the bidding over 7 other teams. Guzman is reported to be 6'5", 17 years old and per one scout quoted in the BA article, reminiscent of Jermaine Dye.
