  1. Just some info on the signing bonus aspect of this conversation, though the posts were from quite some time ago. It's one thing if the player is released, obviously he wouldn't owe the club anything. It's something else, though, if the player quits and refuses to honor his contract after he signs. There is language in players' contracts that forbids them from doing just that. Otherwise, you'd see kids signing contracts, getting paid their bonus, and then quitting and doing something else. I'm sure in this case that the Brewers had Brent agree to a contract that prohibited him from playing football. It's called 'Dual Sport Language' and happens with athletes who are good in two sports, eg Kyle Parker and the Rockies. The Brewers probably do have legal recourse to recoup at least a prorated portion of the bonus, if not more.
  2. I have some questions. Do you just hang out in the lobby at the hotel during the winter meetings or do you meet with teams in their suites? Also, in one of your posts you stated (paraphrasing here) that you don't like all other agents because you're not one of them. What exactly separates you from all other agents and distinguishes yourself from them?
  3. Cole was drafted in 2006, which makes him eligible for the 2009 draft, not this years. They tweaked the Rule 5 rules a couple years back and gave everyone another year before becoming Rule 5 eligible.
  4. In response to the above post, I heard that Crew was complaining about playing time (like he should be playing in front those 'slouches' on the team) and asked to be traded or released. Most teams don't usually respond well to these types of requests from org players like Crew. Plus, it wouldn't set a very good example to other players in the org - "Not happy about something? Ask to be released and they'll let you go, just like that!" So Crew pouted one day and didn't go out to BP, which is like you or me showing up to work and refusing to do what we are paid to do or what our bosses tell us to do. So he gets suspended for it, sent home, and then released a few months later. And from what I've heard, he wasn't a nice kid. More like a turd, to use a family friendly word. But then again, I don't know him, that's just what I heard. Though I would speculate that this type of offense is hardly worth getting released, so I'm sure there's more to the story than what's been let on. I don't believe he's been picked up by another team.
  5. While I think we all appreciate the small glimpse into the sports world that you provide us through your blog, do you constantly have to post "updated" posts? To me, this is a glaringly self-promotional thread you started and keep 'updating' just to keep in it front page in the minor league forum. If you want to advertise yourself, your agency, and your blog, I suggest you talk to Brian about buying some sort of advertising on the site. You said yourself that you know players visit this site, so what better way to pimp your services than to buy some advertising? I think it is certainly better than keeping this mockery of a thread alive. Personally, I'm tired of seeing this at the top of the minor league forum every day. And, yes, I know I don't to click on the thread and I don't have to read what is written. I realize that. However, I think it is high time someone called this 'thread' what it is really is: free advertising for you and your business.
  6. 80k in AAA is a skewed number. Players that sign out of the draft and play their way up through the minors to AAA get paid WAY less than that. The AAA salary minimum is $2,150 per month ($10,750 per season since players get paid only from April through August/early September). Most drafted players get paid between that amount and $2,700 at Triple A, based off their playing experience. The 80k is skewed by 6-year free agents that make $10k-15k per month in the minors, players on option, and players outrighted from ML contracts either during the season or during previous seasons (eg Brad Nelson the previous 2 years). All the Andy Abads and RA Dickeys of the world inflate the AAA average. Players in A ball do not make $12k as previously stated. Most of them make $1,200-$1600 per month for 5 months. That's $6k to $9k per season. All minor league players get paid a per diem of $20 a day on days they play on the road. Keep in mind they also have to pay clubhouse dues of $6-$15 per day (both road and home), leaving them with few food options with the remaining money. They do, however, usually get a clubhouse spread of PB and jelly sandwiches and fruit at the lower levels. AAA and AA they might get something a little nicer, usually a hot meal of some sort (lasagna maybe)
  7. Why isn't Angel playing Winter ball in the DR? Didn't coach say he was the #1 pick in their draft or something? And if winter ball isn't his thing, why isn't he working out in Phoenix with the other Brewer minor league players at their winter program thing that is going on? To me it just seems that something fishy is going on...I didn't see Salome play at instructional league....he wasn't playing in the Hawaiian league...he's not at the Brewers minor league winter ball camp in Phoenix.... I would think the Brewers would want to have Salome in one of those 3 progams instead of working out with a high school team. Unless Angel declined participating in them... Just thinking out loud. Something doesn't add up here.
  8. Um, tomorrow is the only day they'd be missing him...are there even flights that could get him to Cincy in time for the game? I guess if they wanted to put him on a redeye they could. Too bad teleportation hasn't been perfected yet.
  9. That link says that the Brewers signed all of their draft picks. Hardly accurate, I would say.
  10. So I take it Brewerfan.net doesn't employ a fact-checker?
  11. Tim Dillard isn't eligible. He was drafted in 2002 and signed as a DnF in 2003. When he was drafted he was 18, meaning he gets 5 years now before he is eligible. 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 = 4 years Under the old CBA, he would have been eligible this year.
  12. Lehr's no hitter is lost in the 7th with 2 outs. Let's hope he can keep the shutout going now.
  13. Abernathy with an early jack to give the Sounds a 1-0 lead. Not sure what happened to Round Rock's scheduled starter. I thought Astacio was supposed to start...
  14. Disappointing finish in Round Rock. Beattie unable to put the ball in play with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs in the 10th. Then another Allan Simpson implosion puts the Sounds down 2-1. I'd say things look rather bleak now. Two games that the Sounds should have won go to Round Rock.
