  1. Having called a couple of his games, he's typically in high 80s to low 90s. Dan showed great confidence last night in his curve and changeup. He did an excellent job in setting up batters.
  2. Video of Kyle Heckathorn is now on the SpaceCoastBaseball.com home page, along with the homers by Erik Komatsu and Shawn Zarraga. More video from the game will be posted over the weekend.
  3. Hi, we moved the final Manatees webcast to Thursday August 26 for a few reasons. The weather forecast suggested tonight's doubleheader probably would be rained out too. As it turned out, the rain hit all around us and we got in Game #1. Game #2 is under way. The second reason was that I wanted to get photos and video of Kyle Heckathorn. This was his final start at home. I have video of Kyle and all the Manatees' scoring in Game #1. Hopefully I can post most of it tomorrow. Assuming we play one game tomorrow, the final webcast will be at 6:50 PM EDT.
  4. Check out the box score for last night's Jupiter - Brevard County game, Darnell Coles is listed as one of the umpires: http://web.minorleaguebas...10_08_03_jupafa_breafa_1 The webcast is now on www.spacecoastbaseball.com.
  5. We had a large thunderstorm system park over Brevard County from about 3 PM through 7 PM EDT. Lightning strikes everywhere for hours. It wasn't safe to be outside. It was raining the whole time.
  6. I've posted the game highlights from July 30, including some other stuff to give you a flavor of a night at the ballpark. I'm also posting a video walking tour of the playing field, so you can see it from the players' perspective. The links as always are on the SpaceCoastBaseball.com home page. And a shameless reminder that SpaceCoastBaseball.com is financed out of my pocket, which is not very deep these days since I'm unemployed. The web site has no ads, so I rely on our visitors to help defray costs with a one-time donation or $5/month voluntary contribution. 7. Oh, after the offense highlights video, I'll be posting a walking tour of the Space Coast Stadium field. The idea came up in Thursday night's webcast. I'm always talking about certain features, so I got the bright idea to go out and film them. It'll be on line before Tuesday night's webcast for sure, probably sooner.
  8. biedergb wrote: Florida Today had an article a few days ago about a change in his mechanics. The link is: http://www.floridatoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=20107170325 "It feels pretty good," Scarpetta said of his streak, attributing it to a mechanical adjustment to his lower body. "Before my leg, my knee would kind of fly open, like a door flying open. We've been trying to stay closed, keeping that knee closed, going down straight down to the ground."
  9. I just added video of Cody Scarpetta pitching in last night's Manatees game against St. Lucie. Video of offense highlights will be online later today. Go to the home page at www.spacecoastbaseball.com and look under VIDEOS in the left column. By the way, the pitching coach for the St. Lucie Mets is 73-year old Phil Regan, "The Vulture."
  10. The webcast archive for the May 16 Manatees - Cardinals game is now on SpaceCoastBaseball.com. Complete with two-hour rain delay.
  11. Regarding Corey Hart, he took a coaching job with the Astros last winter.
  12. Just a quick note to let people know that I've started posting Manatees videos on SpaceCoastBaseball.com. They're in the VIDEOS column on the left of the home page. The second of fifteen webcasts is Thursday April 15 with the pre-game show at 6:50 PM EDT. You can get to the webcast through the SpaceCoastBaseball.com home page. We had some technical issues in the last webcast thanks to MLB Advanced Media. Hopefully it won't happen again, but I know other teams are suffering too. I archive the recordings on my laptop computer so the archives will be posted the next day on SpaceCoastBaseball.com if you want to hear a replay.
  13. Instructional league schedules and rosters typically aren't published. You can get them through the organization's minor league complex, but you'll have to post them online if they grant permission (no reason why they wouldn't). Some organizations don't run instructs. The current issue of Baseball America has an article about the Cardinals and Mets not having instructs. The Mets will send their kids to the Dominican academy to combine with winter ball. The Cardinals simply decided not to do the instructs; their assistant GM said it was because minor leaguers don't want to go to instructs, which seems pretty weak to me.
  14. Mass Haas wrote: Thanks for listening. I did a Google search last night and found several boards where people mentioned listening. It was all a very much last-minute effort. When I found out the Manatees had no radio and were going to the playoffs, I proposed webcasting the games through MiLB.com. They said yes. So I went out and bought a $40 gaming headset that I could plug into a USB port on my laptop. As for lack of emotion ... Well, if truth be told, I was very sick with a bad cold during the last homestand and the playoffs. The night in question, my wife drove us over to Tampa and any time not at the ballpark was spent in bed at the hotel trying to rest. That night was probably the worst night of the illness. Even when healthy, though, I'm not a big fan of the modern style of broadcasting where announcers go over the top for the most trivial of events. I grew up listening to Vin Scully and Dick Enberg, who most definitely influence my style. Scully rarely got emotional, and he was a minimalist -- for example, Kirk Gibson's home run in the 1988 World Series: "High fly ball to deep right field, she is gone!" What else do you need to know. Scully was adamantly against too much emotion on the air; his job was to tell you what he saw. Finally, I'd promised the Tampa Yankees I'd call it fairly balanced in exchange for access to their broadcast booth, and also as a courtesy to their fans who might be listening as they had no radio contract either. It was fun to do, as a service to the players' parents and the fans for both teams.
