  1. Tough to say right now. Little would be getting a ton of attention if the season was happening and he was doing this. Scouts are going to flock down there and see him on Trackman, Rapsodo and get a better read of what he's got. Could give him some serious helium or could keep him in that 100-150 range.
  2. Anybody in here talking about Luke Little yet from San Jacinto? Blowing up on social media while throwing over 100 MPH indoor in a bullpen. One clip had him as high as 105 MPH, but mostly 101-103's. Throughout the shortened JUCO season video has him in the 94-98 range. I believe Luke said on Twitter that he will be getting on a Trackman this week to get even more data. Arms like this don't come around too often, but he definitely looks the part of a reliever. He's 6ft8 so his mechanics just don't look pretty, but to me he has a lot of Andrew Miller in him. Still relatively young so the off-speed pitches are a work in progress. Going to be very, very interesting to see how high a guy like this gets.
  3. I don't know this to be true because I kind of feel like Garcia and Smoak strikeout a good amount without looking up the numbers, but it would be very odd for him to value guys who put the ball in play and then also value Brett Anderson a pitcher that allows the ball to be put in play more than anybody in baseball. I don't think this is quite what Stearns is doing.
  4. I dont see Brett Anderson getting $10 mill per year given he is the worst qualified starter in K/9 at 4.6. 2/14M sounds heavy to me as well, but a lot of the pitcher contracts have caught me off guard. Anderson is heavily groundball dependent and therefore it will be crucially important that our defense and positioning is on point for him. The positioning aspect I think we can all agree one will be a big bonus for the Brewers. The rest is hard to judge without knowing what the infield looks like. Anderson will be an acquisition in the mold of Gio Gonzalez. Come to Milwaukee and threw more four seamers, cut the two seamers out and throw your best pitch, slider, more than ever before. This would be a very Stearns move
  5. Any talk about Francisco Cervelli? He definitely comes with a risk factor because of the concussion issues but could be an interesting option to pair with Pina. I wouldn't bet on him finding his 2018 form where he was elevating the ball considerably more against right handed pitching and putting up great numbers, but it could be a nice cheap upgrade that will allow us to spend more in other places.
  6. Few names I found doing some internet digging that got brought in for pre-draft stuff, Jack Kochanowicz and Wyatt Wendell (son of Turk)
  7. They tried to do it twice alone last year with Miley and Gallardo. Yo clearly didnt work and we were no worse off for trying. Personally I love the idea of a forward thinking team, like the Brewers, throwing out past results for a player that wasn't being used properly and inputting their own data and development into a guy to make it work for them. The Cubs just won out over the Brewers on the services of a 38 year old left-hander that throws 98 and hasn't played professional baseball in more than a decade. There are some really fascinating things going on with player development and only a handful of major league teams have fully embraced it. Sure a lot of these things dont turn out but I think the Brewers are in a really unique spot with depth at pitching to try and take on some projects. Probably not the spot for this but a few of the guys I have been watching throughout the off-season for my own personal knowledge that I hope the Brewers take a shot on. Given a new direction in how to develop as a player might just be enough for some of these guys to flip the switch... or it's not and they get cut in spring training. David Carpenter RH Relief Adam Walker OF and Milwaukee HS Product
  8. I really like Liriano to fill the Suter role from last year. He can still dominate lefties and be very useful in the pen and his first time through the order he is tough. If the Brewers could sell him on the same change they made to Gio to severely reduce the use of a sinking fastball and go more with the four-seam, the change up and slider that still produce elite swing and miss rates would play better. I'm really cheering for this move to happen.
  9. To help out your theory there is a lot of talk on Philly twitter about how Vegas increased the Phillies odds of winning the world series to fourth best last night.
  10. I'd want at least ten years, and would be willing to go $50 million. With the 3 team option years Kingery's goes for 9 years and $66 million
  11. What would be the consensus if Hiura destroys spring training and the Brewers give him the 6 year $24 million with three team options contract that the Phillies gave Kingery last year?
  12. To me it is similar to when a team and player would be bickering over $300k and head to arbitration. All the fans would wonder why a team would put themselves through that. The guy that was in charge of the process for the Brewers said at the Baseball Prospectus Q and A that teams fight over that little amount because each case has the ability to set the new price for years to come. Grandal mentioned the guys in the past but I imagine it was just important for him to keep the AAV high for the future players as well just as the guys he mentioned did for him. If the top catcher on the market takes a discount that is most definitely going to set a lower price for future catcher's coming out. I definitely had a lot of respect for his explanation and him fighting for the players side a little bit.
  13. I think Kuechel is scary to teams because his weaknesses are what most teams are looking for. He doesn't strike out many so lots of extra balls in play are going for hits. Also every other team in the league is trying to become the Astros in terms of player development and maximizing player's strengths with the use of data... so if he was struggling at times with a team like the Astros who took in Charlie Morton, Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole and made them the best versions of themselves. Do those teams really believe they can do better than the Astros? I think the Brewers are one of the few teams that could really maximize his strengths but they are going to commit to him long term like he wants.
  14. Might not be as accurate for a catcher but does Pina's value as a mainly defensive player take a hit if he is only a part time player? We all know that defense sample sizes need to be pretty large to get a good read on a defender; even a season's worth of data sometimes isn't a big sample size. So with him at this moment looking like a 60 game catcher does he have more value to a team that would play him fulltime?
  15. Pina makes a lot of sense for the Red Sox who are trying to control spending a little but but seriously need an upgrade behind the plate
