However, it should be noted that he had no problem laying down to give Michael Strahan the sack record once that game was in hand. Not to mention that Favre doesn't actually HOLD any records that appear in the NFL Record and Fact Book, except for consecutive 3,000 yd seasons, a stat which is about as meaningless in the NFL now as 500 homers is in baseball. If nothing else, you have to give Bonds credit for keeping his routine...if he truly were a glory hound, I would think he'd want as many ABs tonight as possible to glory in his newly-minted adulation as the HR king. Leaving on his normal schedule lets the focus return to the game at hand, in a weird, ironic-twisty sort of way...

Honest question: Is Johnny Estrada part of the problem?
imaji replied to AJAY's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Is Miller CAPABLE of starting 5-6 games in a row? He's not exactly a spring chicken, and I know what MY knees feel like after a softball game, and I don't even have to squat! Might be worth a shot at this point, regardless...too many more of these and we can break out the forks. -
I don't agree With all the talk about Bonds,Aaron has got plenty of media attention and respect for what he did. Not many people get 30+ year old documentaries rebroadcast like "The Long Winter of Henry Aaron" recently was...I even heard Tom Brokaw on Rome's show talking about Hank and plugging the special. I think we all got out of it what we chose to get out of it. I choose personally to pretty much ignore Bonds, and instead found pleasure in things like examining how the game has changed thru the different eras of the "great" sluggers, whether it was Ruth playing during segregation, Williams losing prime years to wars, Aaron/Mays/Mantle playing in VERY pitcher-friendly conditions during the bulk of their careers, or the modern effects of advances in travel and medicine, both legal and illegal.

Bynres signs extension with Dbacks

I frankly find Byrnes' deal far less preposterous than Suppan's. =) -
I reeeeeeeeeeally think it's unnecessary to take potshots at children, regardless of the circumstances, but I'm sure my opinion will be offensive to someone regardless.

The first thing that pops to mind is the quote from Watergate/Nixon's resignation..."Our long national nightmare is over" Now maybe ESPN and sportsradio can go back to talking about things we care about.

For educational purposes: " Jew From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia A Jew (Hebrew: ????????, Yehudi (sl.); ?????????, Yehudim (pl.); Ladino: ???????, Djudios; Yiddish: ????, Yid (sl.); ?????, Yidn (pl.))[1][/sup] is a member of the Jewish people who are an ethnic group originating in the Israelites of the ancient Middle East. The Jewish people or the Jewish nation also consists of others who converted to Judaism throughout the millennia. The ethnicity and the religion of Judaism are strongly interrelated, and converts are both included and have been absorbed within the Jewish people. The Jews have suffered a long history of persecution in many different lands, and their population and distribution per region has fluctuated throughout the centuries. Today, most authorities place the number of Jews between 12 and 14 million,[2][/sup] the largest number of whom live in the United States (40.5% in 2002) and Israel (34.4% in 2002), with the remainder distributed in communities of varying sizes in almost every country. The total world Jewish population, however, is difficult to measure and is subject to the controversy of secular, halakhic or other parameters of defining who is a Jew. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jew Amazing how many times Wikipedia can use slurs in one preface, eh? http://www.jewwatch.com/images/pic%20page%20folder/gif-logo-jewwatch-2.jpg The Jew Watch Project Is The Internet's Largest Scholarly Collection of Articles on Jewish History Free Educational Library for Private Study, Scholarship, and Research The Jew Watch Project's 637 Million Pages Served Demonstrate Our Focus on Professionalism http://www.jewwatch.com/ http://www.jewfaq.org/whoisjew.htm http://jewschool.com/ Please stop yourselves, your ignorance on the subject really does nothing but make you look like closet racists. edit: I hadn't seen pogokat's post as I composed this last one. I'm frankly stunned that (a) this became an issue in the first place, and (b) that it has snowballed into a "MAJOR ISSUE". My last line basically sums up my feelings. This is closet racism from people who don't even realize they are racists. It's ok. Please feel free to delete my account at Brewerfan.net.

My prejudice and bias against what, appropriated slurs? Prejudice and bias is a heavy accusation which I frankly resent. I am curious to know when the word "Jew" became a slur? As noted previously, the Journal ran a page 2 feature 3 Sundays ago titled "The top 5 Jewish hitters in Baseball History". Is "Italian" a slur? Is "Irishman" a slur? What must Jewish people be called, "Hebrews", and that exclusively? edit: Every human being has prejudices and biases. You are (hopefully) prejudiced against rattlesnakes, and I'm quite certain you have a bias against Cubs fans and certain foods. Why do those words scare you?

I would note that my posts are both longer than your original post in this thread, "insert Johnny Estrada joke here". Thus, your complaint has little merit, much as your opinion of my avatar reveals your own prejudice and bias about Jews. Actually, both of my posts prior to this one are longer than more than just yours, but mine you deem to be one-liners worthy of banning because you chose to assume about me. One thing I have noticed over the last few days is a heaping helping of Colonialism...people who have been posting here for years, and no doubt complaining that nobody supports the Brewers, the Brewers get no national exposure, etc etc etc...when you finally get what you have been complaining about NOT having for all these years, you instinctively retaliate against it. I have noticed threads about "bandwagon" fans coming to Miller Park, for instance. In effect, what you are saying is "the only people who deserve to come to Miller Park are the people who came when the Brewers sucked" (whether or not you realize it). Of course, if you "got your wish", the Brewers would continue to be financially constrained and thus continue to suck. You rail about Cubs fans coming to Miller Park, and no doubt "wish" that "TRUE" Brewer fans would buy up all the tickets so that no Cubs fan would be able to come...but somehow, you still gladly take their money. It's a common, but still incongruous and disconcerting attitude to have. In FACT, I made no "crack" about Brewer fans. I suggested that the "fine women" go back to Chicago in the first. YOUR assumptions include among them that no Brewer fans live anywhere except Milwaukee. You also assume that the "crack" was intended against "Brewer fans" and not Milwaukee women in general. Now, I'll admit that Milwaukee does have some fine women, but I will also note that in 16 years of living here, at least a dozen Milwaukee/Wisconsin natives have bemoaned the fact that young, attractive women tend to emigrate out of Milwaukee once they become adults. To hold me accountable for something that is accepted truth is duplicitous and inflammatory. My second "crack" was in fact an endorsement of a TV character/skit that I find quite amusing, and I'm quite sure Triumph could have a rocking good time at any baseball stadium, just as he does at, for instance, a Star Wars movie opening. Perhaps BF.net just wants to continue to be a small bedroom community of longsuffering people who want to go on bemoaning their lot in life as Brewer fans. That's fine, I suppose. Or perhaps you might put out a little guide explaining that new users are not allowed to attempt humor until 'x' posts have been deemed acceptable by a committee made up of you and whoever else you approve. You might tell us which Brewers we can make fun of (evidently, it's ok to poke fun at Johnny Estrada in your book). Is it just the Latins, or can we make fun of white and black players also? Or perhaps we can only poke fun at guys when they're struggling, or when they are successful? Or maybe we can only make fun of players' physical attributes? I for one would really appreciate knowing. Or perhaps you should just close the boards to new users, because you don't exactly come across as friendly or classy, to be honest. Which is not to say that I do. But I'm not the one calling for people's heads, either...except Ned's, every now and then. And for the record, I owned 20 game packs through most of the late '90s...what are the qualifications to be able to post freely? "X" years season ticket holders? "X" dollars in Brewers merchandise owned? I breathlessly await your response, or my banning. I won't die without this board, I thought it would be fun to share thoughts about the Brewers, but I've basically gotten nothing but grief for the last few days, and it's fast becoming "not fun".

Vintage Prince/Cecil Fielder commercial
imaji replied to dannyjnoonan's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I found that to be the most ironic thing of all myself... -
Wow, a lot of bases to touch... "And since for some reason I got called out for my avatar by you, which was pretty lame if I do say, the picture in mine is a close-up of Woody Guthrie's guitar. I honestly thought that pretty much everyone would know that, but whatever, though." I wasn't calling you out, per se, merely grasping at an obvious 'stretching' of clearly stated rules. Fascism is a political system. Site rules clearly state to avoid references to politics. It would be incongruous to allow your avatar and not mine, whether yours is pro or con towards the mentioned belief system, and whether or not the historical reference (Woody's guitar) existed. "Kinky and the Texas Jewboys is Kinky Friedman's band. He is actually Jewish himself." I am aware, but it would in fact be possible for someone to mock their own race and heritage, just ask Bill Cosby. "I am speaking out by saying I do not like it. I find it insulting and inflammatory." I would be much more willing to consider pulling it if you had a reason besides "I don't like it". What offends you? The letters j-e-w? The word Jew? The pairing of the word "Jew" with "boys"? (I know black people that consider being called "boy" derogatory, due to historic connotation...I find it ridiculous, but then again, the word "gay" meant "happy" when i was growing up, and now, evidently, it can't mean anything EXCEPT homosexual...go figure...sometimes I hate this country). Does the blending of Jewboys with a Cowboys logo trigger your "offense" button? WHAT? "I don't like it" doesn't address anything in particular except what one COULD call an oversensitive martyr complex. "I was aware of Kinky Friedman, etc before this avatar business but it still struck me as pretty provocative." If you mean provocative as in "attention grabbing", excellent. If you mean provocative as in "trying to start a fight", I'd suggest, as above, that any "problem" perhaps exists within your own prejudices and biases as opposed to the logo. "the first time i saw that avatar it caught my eye too, and of course i had no idea whether you were mocking the jewish religion or not. I do know that I would never use my religion as part of my fantasy football nickname, but thats me." When did I ever state I was orthodox hassidim? Jew is a nationality, a race, if you will, Judaism is a religion. Not all Jews practise Judaism, just like all the Irish aren't Catholics, and all the English aren't Anglican. I have it on good authority that all black people don't celebrate Kwanzaa, either. If you are going to go in that direction, Hebrew Hammer's avatar is MUCH more "provocative", to use a previously mentioned adjective. His Star of David is much more overt, and the silhouette in it clearly identifies a religious figure. "That would be like if Marquette actually did change their nickname to the jumping jesuits as the students wanted a few years ago." What exact;y would be wrong with that? Marquette is, in fact, a Jesuit owned university that enforces religious policies (however loosely) on their student body, is it not? ANd before you say "no", I took classes at MU within the past 10 years and still have a student handbook around somewhere, it made for very interesting reading to a guy who enjoys philosophy and religion as much as I do. "Something like this, coming from a Jewish guy, is about as offensive as a WWJD bracelet. Besides, is Jerry Jones Jewish (I really don't know) or Romo?" So is it your position that no person of Jewish descent should ever be allowed to convert to, for instance, Christianity? What races and nationalities are allowed freedom of religion in your book? Can the French choose to be Methodist, or are they stuck with Catholicism? Are all Germans required to be Lutheran? The arguments/observations stated here in these last few posts are extreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeemely interesting to me. "If you can be offended by the avatar you better know what 18 really means." I have absolutely no idea what that's supposed to mean, but then again, the avatar doesn't offend me. =) I'd best stop for now, lest this turn into a clearly banned political/religious discussion. Anyone interested in further discourse, I can be contacted by PM or at yahoo with my same username (imaji).

My money will go on Triumph, the insult comic dog from Conan O'Brien's show...imagine the fun that mutt could have at MP...priceless!
-
Nah, it counts, dude, you're right, I'm wrong, I stand corrected, I forgot about Ichiro's old butt because he is/was old. Good catch.

I dunno either, to be honest. I'm sure different Jews would feel different about it, kinda like how black folks feel about the "N-word". I have 20+ yr friendships with black guys (whether I was in the Army with them or whatever), and I can call them "my n***", and they say it to me as well. A stranger who didn't know me/us/our relationship could easily be offended...it actually came up in a job situation once, where a black employee of mine who actually started calling me the "whitest n*** on the face of the earth" had to defend me from a racism accusation to HR because an employee on another shift heard us jawjackin each other. Afaik, the NoMas shirt is based on the designers love for this band: http://www.kinkyfriedmanstore.com/files/Blake/jewboys_front.gif The band's website doesn't make it clear if they intend it as a slur, and basically I don't care. I have chosen to embrace the term, especially since my Mom (recently deceased) always called me "her little Jewboy" (I was adopted as a baby by my parents, who got me from a married orthodox attorney and his secretary...oops). Illegitimate children weren't SO common in the '60s, and especially not in the orthodox Jewish community in Chicago. The point is, just as NWA, PE, and many other "gangsta rappers" chose to embrace a term originally meant to have a negative context, I have chosen to embrace and grown to love the term Jewboy, and turn a negative (if that's indeed what it was intended to be) into a positive. It's not as inflammatory or confrontational as, say, "Kike", which I don't think could be justified in any context. I'm a Jew, I'm a boy (man), so it works for me, and I'm just glad I'm in America where I can wear my Jewboys gear freely without bombs going off. However, if anything ever happened to my wife and kids, I've made a vow to emigrate to Israel and join the IDF. "Yeah, out of curiosity I asked some non-Brewerfan people what their first impression was when someone showed up with a "Jewboys" avatar. I asked if they thought it was anti-semitic or not, and their initial reaction was "yes". Lesson learned for us, I guess. " I completely understand your POV on the situation, my real complaint was just that, from _my_ POV, it was yanked without discussion or a chance to defend it. THAT was the reason for this post. I didn't even think to check my inbox here on the site until after I had posted, and even then, as I said, there wasn't much 'discussion' offered, just a yank it or face the consequences-type ultimatum. Although I love my avatar, I'm actually jealous of Hebrew Hammers now, I think it's even a tad spiffier. And Uecker, glad ya liked the jersey, I *just* found them like 4-5 days ago, and I'm still trying to calm down and decide on either the home or away, since my wife will go apescheiss if I buy both. =p My IIHF T-shirt is already en-route tho. =)

They are probably showing Diamondback highlights in AZ, Rockies highlights in CO, etc etc. Even though it's a nationally "branded" commercial, it's not uncommon to have multiple versions that are sent to specified cable providers in the commercial blocks, kinda like SI and Fantasy mags have 2-6 covers usually for annual special issues. Still cool tho...
