  1. Indeed. As long as he's not doing a game. In that case, he's unlistenable.
  2. Was he named in the Mitchell Report? Did he (allegedly) have an affair with a 15-year old? (Like a certain player) Did he get a DUI? Why do you consider him a lousy person off the field?
  3. I stand by the terrible comments. 5 organizations in 2 years. No team would even invite him to spring training. Playing in the minors at 32. Terrible with a capital T.
  4. There's a reason Branyan is playing in the minor leagues at 32. He's terrible.
  5. I am so glad Gabe Gross is out of Milwaukee. I don't understand the irrational love affair with this mediocre player. A 7-page thread on him? LOL. Gross had 6 good weeks in Milwaukee. His first month here in '06 and 2 weeks after he was called up from Nashville last August. You look up mediocrity in the dictionary and there's his picture. I'm glad he's gone and only wish I could have driven him to the airport.
  6. Dunno why he never got a chance to be a starter. Because he's not any good?
  7. I didn't check, but I know that last year they didn't replay the games. Complaining won't matter. DirectTV will blame it on FSN and FSN will blame it on DirectTV. From what I've found, DirectTV will only air live programming on FSN.
  8. I have tickets for Wednesday's game. I was planning to not even acknowledge Jenkins. I cheered for him at the end of last year to thank him for his career in Milwaukee. He was a nice player, but nothing special. However, if I hear booing around me, I will get on my feet and cheer like Babe Ruth had been reincarnated.
  9. These are stupid reasons to boo also (except in the Helms case, but I don't know if that's true, he just sucked). Any poster here would leave their current job for a similiar job for more money. Burnitz didn't whine about playing in Milwaukee, he actually ripped Wendy and Bando for being clueless. Why boo someone just because he used to play here? It makes Milwaukee fans look bush league.
  10. So, say you are working at Company X and a big competitor of your company offers you a 10% raise. Say you're making $70,000/year and the competitor offers you $80,000/year. You're telling me you wouldn't leave? Out of some sense of "loyalty"?? That's a crock. I don't understand people who boo former players (except, in the case of Sheffield, those who ripped the city or didn't give their all when they played here). Milwaukee is bush league in this regard. Why the hatred for Carlos Lee? It makes absolutely no sense.
  11. You sound like the only way you would be happy is if they picked the Brewers to win the World Series and had a 20-page article on Braun.
  12. Reasons to hate ESPN. -Their daytime programming is just people who shout at each other. They started with 2 guys that yell at each other, then started another show with 3 guys and then 4 guys. -They employ Skip Bayless. -After the success of the Olberman-Patrick team in the mid-90s on Sportscenter, ever since their anchors try to outdo each other by being "witty" and "cutting edge". -They employ Stuart Scott. -"Who's Now" -Everytime a Disney movie comes out, amazingly the stars are all over ESPN. -The ESPY's -Their analysts don't really analyze. The producers just make them say something controversial. For example, last May, John Kruk said the Pirates would be in first place by Memorial Day in the division. A week later he was on a Madison radio show and he admitted that a producer made him say that because he wanted something that people would talk about. -"The Greatest Highlight" in which they erase the announcers calls and have Chris Berman talk over them. -Chris Berman -Their east coast bias. Last week on the website, on the right hand bar where they list the top 8 stories, 7 of the 8 had to do with the Red Sox, Yankees or Mets (on the main page, not the MLB page). From ESPN's coverage, you wouldn't know the Red Sox played the A's in Japan, rather it was an intersquad scrimmage. -Their destruction of Monday Night Football. That's just off the top of my head. I now only watch live games on their network. The rest of it can go away as far as I'm concerned.
  13. I agree that I don't understand why you keep McClung at the expense of Villanueva. Again, Villanueva is getting the shaft by the administration's love of Claudio Vargas. The reason the bullpen blew up in the second half last year was because the starters couldn't go deep into games. Vargas' 5 IP and 100 pitches every outing was a big reason why. So, when August rolls around this year and David Riske and Guillermo Mota are toast, don't wonder why.
  14. My guess is if they keep 13 position players, he's on the team. If they keep 13 pitchers, he gets sent down. I admit I've come around on Dillion and want him on the team. I think Munson and Counsell have spots nailed down. Gwynn will start in CF during Cameron's suspension (Cameron doesn't count on the roster during these 25 games). I think Kapler makes the team because Melvin loves him (to be fair, he is hitting .300/.371/.433). Then the final spot comes down to Dillion vs. Gross. Since I can't stand Gross, I hope Dillion makes it. He can play any corner position (3B, 1B, LF, RF) and is a better hitter. Gross is only hitting .214 this spring (with a .298 OBP), so, right now, I think Dillion makes it.
  15. Throw me in there too, thanks, Pedro.
  16. I'm saying I don't care if he was Crash Davis. He wasn't in the Show, so he wasn't successful. He was a bust.
  17. Major league abilities? He played 10 games in the majors!!! What major league abilities?? I read the FJM column yesterday and he mentioned that Brown was "not a failure" and "had a good career". He did? The object of drafting players is to get them to the major leagues. The goal of every player in the minor leagues is to be a successful major leaguer. Brown was a bust, plain and simple. And the fact he retired for "personal reasons" doesn't matter. He wasn't any closer at 28 from reaching the majors as he was 3 years ago.
  18. I hope you're right. But 1) The Cubs won 85 games, the Brewers 83. 2) The Brewers improvements are arguable. Bullpen could be great or terrible. Braun in left is a ? just as Hall was in center last year. Hall at third has 17 errors in 84 career games; not much better than Braun. 3) Agree on C. With the Brewers, can Hall bounce back? Can Fielder or Braun do any better? Weeks and Hart are the 2 who SHOULD really improve for the Brewers, Hart mainly because he'll get more PT. 4) The Cubs and Brewers each have two players in their projected lineups older than 30 (Derrick Lee, Fukkodome, Mike Cameron and Jason Kendall). One wildcard is the Lou Piniella vs. Ned Yost matchup. I guess the real answer will come down to will the Brewers retooled bullpen be more of an advantage than the addition of Fukkodome. I think the Brewers and Cubs will battle it out all year. It should be a good one. Let's hope the good guys come out on top this year. (pared back long nested quote --1992)
  19. By definition, when a "majority of experts" pick you, you ARE the favorite. As for the "one big injury", you could say that for any team, be it the Red Sox, Angels, Indians, Mets, etc. Doesn't mean those teams still aren't the favorites.
  20. I always hate it when teams and fans play the "disrespect" card. Every championship team in every sport for the past 20 years has used the line "no one outside this locker room respected us." It's all garbage, IMO. As for the Brewers, why should they be respected?? They lost a big lead in the division and haven't been to the playoffs in a quarter of a century. That demands respect to you?
  21. Last year, I could access spring training games over the internet (because the flagship is only broadcasting about 6 spring training games). I just noticed, do you actually have to PAY to listen to spring training games this year? Thanks, Bud.
  22. Just so every different community doesn't get asked about, Milwaukee County and north is the Milwaukee market and will receive all Brewers and Bucks games. Cubs, White Sox, Red Sox, Royals, etc. will be available on Extra Innings.
  23. Being a one-time fluke all-star and leading the league in "Quality Starts" (a horrendous stat if there ever was one) are not good arguments for considering anyone an ace, or even a very good pitcher.
  24. You keep bringing up this "injury". What injury? He had his non-throwing shoulder cleaned up in the off-season, but as far as I can tell, he suffered no injury on June 8 @ Texas (his 13th start). In fact, all the game write-up talks about Capuano is that he "lost his fifth straight start after starting out 5-0. He gave up six runs and eight hits while walking four in four innings." And that "It was like Jekyll and Hyde tonight," said Capuano, who has a 5.94 ERA in his last five starts. "In the [third] inning I felt right on top of my stuff. In the next inning, I just didn't have good command." http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=270608113 Also interesting that you brought up his '06 season. He had a solid first half and an abysmal second half (5.17 ERA). If you think Villanueva is a #4, then Capuano has to be a #5 or lower. (pared back long quote --1992)
  25. Capuano was NEVER an ace. It is illogical that Villanueva would start the season at Nashville. The kid got screwed last year by pitching out of the bullpen (he outpitched Vargas in Spring Training in what was called a "fair competition" for the #5 spot, but that was just a lie). He has done nothing with the Brewers to suggest he can't be a dependable pitcher. Just the comment that "we may not go with our 5 best pitchers to start the year...." WHAT??? Why wouldn't you go with your 5 best? You lose a game in April and lose the division by one game and it's the same as losing on Sept. 28. I hope this is just posturing by Yost. Villy should start the year at #3, with Capuano and Bush at 4 and 5, then after Capuano drops his first 2-3 decisions, you can demote him to the minors to work on things.
