  1. Cooper had a broken leg in 1978.
  2. The original poster is cherry picking, since Weeks and Maldonado are playing well but are not counted. "The bad guys suck if you ignore the good guys."
  3. The 2006 pen didn't lead the majors in relief losses or in WHIP the way this one is doing. ERA either, though 2012 somehow doesn't have the worst ERA either. 2006 rotation was also less impressive that this year's so the dropoff was less noticeable.
  4. Brewers are the worst in relief losses and WHIP. They are third worst in ERA, Mets and Houston are worst. Generally, less runs are scored in the late innings. MLB overall, the innings with the fewest runs are 9th, 8th, 2nd, and 7th. Brewers have given up the most runs in the 3rd, followed by the 9th and 8th. There have been complaints about the Brewers not scoring late, but generally all teams have this problem. Mets' worst inning is the 7th. They have lost 10 games where they were ahead in the 7th, which is worse than the Brewers. However, they are better in the 8th and 9th than the Brewers in both ERA and losses. Mets have also been about .500 in their tie games, whereas the Brewers have been below .500 in tie games in almost every inning. Astros have a bad overall staff, so their bullpen isn't really any worse than the rest of it.
  5. K-Rod has not had a good year overall, but he's been better recently. Axford shows no signs of improvement. Best bet is K-Rod as closer, 8th inning is match-up, Axford figures it out in mop-up. What would really help the Brewers is if Marcum got well. Then Estrada could go to the pen in a key role. Estrada is a far better pitcher than any current reliever. Interesting that the injuries to Narveson, Marcum, and Lucroy have not hurt the team all that much. They have even gotten some production out of the shortstops, and Aoki is at least as productive as Gamel was likely to be. But the bullpen, where there have been no injuries, has underperformed massively and killed the season.
