  1. I've been pimping Orlando Arcia for years it feels like, but it's awfully hard to resist putting Taylor at the number 1 spot.
  2. ...and Devin comes out of the gate hot! First ever professional batter faced, Clint Frazier, sent down on strikes. AZL Indians Bottom of the 1st -Clint Frazier called out on strikes. -Ivan Castillo grounds out, third baseman Tucker Neuhaus to first baseman Alan Sharkey. -Luis Hernandez grounds out, second baseman Francisco Castillo to first baseman Alan Sharkey. Top 10 pick Clint Frazier. And another nice IP.
  3. If I were doing a top 10, I think I'd be surprised if they weren't in it. Not sure I can name 10 guys right off the top of my head I'd have ahead of them. I'm just going to list guys I wouldn't put them over and see what happens: Orlando Arcia Clint Coulter Victor Roache Tyrone Taylor Hunter Morris Tyler Thornburg Johnny Hellweg Jimmy Nelson That's 8. Williams slides in probably after these 8. Neuhaus likely is in the early teens, I still might take a few guys over him.
  4. What about Tyrone Taylor who is only a half year older than Arcia who is also putting up similar numbers that Arcia is doing. I believe by next year the Brewers are going to have 3 players in the top 50-100 in Taylor, Arcia, and Haniger with a possible 4th in Jimmy Nelson depending on if he makes it to the majors this year or not. Depending on how well Roache plays this year you could see him in the top 100 or just sitting on the outside looking in. When the lists are updated at some point this year I wouldn't be surprised to see Nelson, Haniger, Taylor, and Arcia in the top 100. Maybe not all of them but I can definitely see Haniger and Taylor getting put on that list when they get updated. What about Nick Ramirez his average is not all that great nor is his OBP all that great but he is taking more walks this year than last year in Wisconsin and it looks like his power is back with 13 HR's so far this year he is only 3 off from what he hit last year. He is still striking out a lot but he is also walking more he has 5 less walks than he did all of last year but he looks to be on pace to be at or above where he finished last year in strike outs. Final player I have some questions about where do you put Garfield now? It doesn't seem like he has become any more patient at the plate and his defense still looks to be rather bad. Haniger is going to have a tough time making lists based on the low ceiling. I'm similarly excited about Taylor, but Arcia gets the nod on my list due to position, age, and polish. But Taylor has potential to rise like crazy with more strong performance (or particularly with some pop in his bat). Ramirez is a bench bat with pop and Garfield is looking like a AAAA player without the defense and patience.
  5. Hearing the rumors of how high Milwaukee was on Trout, then seeing this and realizing he's Mickey Mantle reincarnate make me very, very sad. For a guess at the thread title, Xander Booagaerts? EDIT: Google has given me the answer, but I feel guilty about giving it. I feel like future 'name that prospects' should be from current prospects and not modern superstars/former players.
  6. I feel like Orlando Arcia will not only be making top 100 lists, but sliding in at the top 50 or so spots. 18 year olds aren't supposed to do what he's doing to Low A ball right now. This kid is special. I'm all in - he'll be my number 1 prospect.
  7. Orlando Arcia now has a BB/K of 1.00 as an 18 year old in A ball. I know we haven't said this in a while, but dear flippin' jimminy cricket 'let the trumpets blare'. This guy is going to be a superstar. Between him and Tyrone Taylor, Victor Roache, and Clint Coulter, this lineup has high ceiling bats who are getting their bearings. It's going to be scary fun to follow once the feet are wet. I'm giddy about it.
  8. No question, and that is disappointing. I would much prefer to have used the 3rd round pick on someone who wasn't nearly as signable since that pick is given back if we don't sign anyone. Now, if we take a risk on a HS guy, they have more leverage since we will be forfeiting the pick. But likewise, had the Brewers drafted a player who wasn't as signable for the third round, they would've lost more money than if they hadn't been able to sign the guy in, say the seventh round. There's still a huge gamble here. If you fail to sign the 3rd round player, you get the pick back next year. If you fail to sign the 7th round player, you get nothing back.
  9. No question, and that is disappointing. I would much prefer to have used the 3rd round pick on someone who wasn't nearly as signable since that pick is given back if we don't sign anyone. Now, if we take a risk on a HS guy, they have more leverage since we will be forfeiting the pick.
  10. I think that's quite a reach considering his age and stuff, if Lohse is our anchor we're in huge trouble. I meant more in terms of 2014 so that we can blow everything up and grab some high ceiling talent for Gallardo. Hopefully by 2015 and beyond it's guys like Peralta, Nelson, Hellweg, and Thornburg who are anchoring the staff and not Lohse.
  11. But guys, Lohse is the last missing piece to get the Brewers to the playoffs! Can't you see his gritty veteran-ness moving this team forward??? He's such a rotation anchor! I may be crucified for this, but there is a way to spin the Lohse signing as 'not the worst thing that could have happened'. Having Lohse at the front of the rotation for the next few years will allow us to trade Gallardo for the right price without completely blowing up the rotation. That way, we still have at least 1 guy we can count on for good innings and to give the bullpen a day of rest. Now, obviously we all would have preferred that this come from a guy who didn't cost a 1st round pick (Ryan Dempster was my choice). But, at the end of the day, what helps the farm more - taking a guy at 17 and having to keep Gallardo or keeping Lohse, losing 17 and getting a haul of prospects? (I realize that may be a false equivalency, but it's my spin to justify the move after the fact and I'm sticking to it!)
  12. Kyle Lohse can turn the franchise around dang-nabbit!
  13. Guys change position all the time. Moving off of SS is the easiest move to make since SS is usually the best athlete. Not to mention Arcia hasn't done anything yet and could bust. Segura might leave via free agency by the time this guy makes to the bigs. Also, SS is traditionally a position of need around baseball and the more good shortstops you have the more chips you have to trade. Always take best player available regardless of position. In baseball more so than any other sport. Arcia: I'd say keeping his head above water at Low A and posting a wRC+ of about 90 at 18 despite missing a full season of ball and skipping a rookie level qualifies as something. Segura: Expect him to agree to an extension. The rest is definitely true - you can never have too many SSs and BPA is always a good pick.
  14. One can assume if he didn't have a little control issues, then he's likely selected in the 1st round? It's the control that slips him down to our pick. HS Pitcher Thank You! I hope it's a fun ride reading his development as the next 4 years progress. I wouldn't call him a nonflamethrower if mid 90s are projectable with his frame. Yes that makes sense. A lot of people were calling for a high school pitcher. This pick should please many. Got a question. Why do many prefer high school pitchers over college pitchers? The college pitcher has had more time to work on his stuff. Because college pitching ranks have already been thinned out by clubs taking HS pitchers 2-3 years earlier. It's kind of like going to a bar after Ryan Gosling leaves with 10 chicks. He might have missed some, but he took who he wanted off the board.
  15. Yep. He's a HS "SS", but a plus big league 3B. Another nice pick. Lefty with some pop. We'll see if he can hit enough to use it.
